Selling Student Loans During Prime Time
Television advertisements sell us cars, soap, and food. But student loans? Check out this ad from E-Loan. One reader recently told me that she would be suspicious of any company that placed such ads. Would you?

Seems Fine to Me
I don't understand what would turn someone off to E-Loan based on that commercial. If any thing, I think many people who have not negotiated the student loan path and are leery of it would like seeing this type of commercial, because it gives the impression that the process is fairly simple.
The commercial's message that college costs "pop up" does make it sound like you might want to keep an extra $40,000 laying around in case that biology textbook ends up being a little pricier than you thought, but overall I think it's a smart move on E-Loan's part. It would be interesting to know if E-Loan thinks the commercial has produced results.
