Specter, Democrats Push in Pennsylvania, but Republicans Have Hope

Time for Specter to retire
I am a former Republican, who feels that the Republican party has moved away from him--it is becoming a party of anti-intellectuals, fringe religious zealots, foreign policy interventionists, with Orwellian Big Brother tendencies in domestic politics. And what is especially bad is that as the Republican party loses mainstream support, it is reacting by accelerating its movement away from its older mainstream values.
So I understand why Arlen Specter left the party.
But he is old, and I am not sure he understands how much of the new Republicanism (of which he was part of) he needs to cast off. I think it is better if he retires. Rep. Sestak, I think, would better serve Pennsylvania.
Identity?
But if Specter is confused in his identity, that is no different from any other Republican.
I am not saying he is the best choice, only that he recognizes the obvious.
