Support of sonja sotomayor for Supreme Justice

As a minority of an Native American Tribe living in the discriminatory state of South Dakota, having experienced all the biased, unequaled, unethical and unconstitutional treatment by the federal justice system that have our "interests at heart". I come to this conclusion, I totally agree with Clasee of Ca. We have our civil and human rights too., but we have been violated of our rights for hundreds of years, persecuted for protecting our right to survive. These power hungry perpetrators and their abuses against the poor and the minorities need to be investigated across this land, not only in South Dakota, but the whole world over. We, as a nation of multicultural human beings, need to reexamine our point of views. We desperately need to change our destiny. We inherited a War and a deficit that our grandchildren will have to deal with. I think we've had enough of the likes of Newt Gingrich and the perpetrators of the Bush Era. We need people like Sonja sotomayor and I am fully in support of Sonja Sotomayor for Supreme Justice.

SDS

I would hardly think it a black mark for anyone to have been a member of the SDS in college in the first place, but for anyone to be so cowardly as to hint around at somebody having been in the SDS like that's some big slur without coming right out and saying who is being, s/he thinks, slandered by this innuendo -- well, it could only be coming from a republican.

And that takes it from being simply idiotic all the way down to being utterly meaningless.

Great balls of poll-reading!

John Warren (post below), who has been spamming this site for weeks with ads for Sarah Palin as president in 2012, has read some polls.

He now knows Sarah is not out front, even among Republicans, and has flip-flopped to a Romney-Palin ticket.

Got news for you, John. Your gal, Sarah, won't accept second place on the ticket a second time. It's not in her nature. So, with luck, she'll wither politically and Obama will win bigger in 2012 than in 2008.

As for the article above, yes, it's predicted that the firefighters' case from New Haven will be swung to the firefighters' side at the current (Roberts) Supreme Court, possibly 5/4. That kind of decision is precisely why we need Sotomayor and several more like her to be appointed.

In Search of Truth

Nemo:

This publication is a weekly magazine, not a newspaper.

This publication is known as US News & World Report. Jon Meacham is an editor for Newsweek.

WHO is it you are so certain was a member of SDS?

Julian:

Can you be more specific about these "connections" to La Raza you allege, or is it more a general 'guilt by association' thing you're trying for?

Bravo Frederick for providing perspective & speaking the truth:

-Having inherited a surplus, Bush then bankrupted the country, benefitting big business and war profiteers, but squandering our future for generations to come

-The Patriot Act was more about the very secretive, all-powerful but paranoid, Bush admin. circumventing existing laws in order to invade Americans' privacy, gather info & spy on citizens, especially any it imagined not to be in total agreement with them (that "Yer either with us or against us mentality"), than it ever was about keeping America safe from terrorists. It's been an appalling abuse of power, just as all the torture has been - ie: waterboarding 183 times trying to coerce a false statement to cover for the lies the admin told us so they could invade Iraq?! That's as low, cruel, cowardly & abusive as it can get. Only deranged sadists do that, not sane leaders who sincerely want to protect their citizens or maintain any moral high ground in the world.

The Supreme Court needs counter influences to balance out the likes of all the ultra-conservative, iffy on civil & privacy rights, apparently executive power supporting, pro-Bush et al justices brought to us by the perpetrators of these abuses, the Bush admins. Hopefully Sotomayor can bring a less fearful, much needed, broader point of view to the court that might mitigate some of the unduly heavy Bush influence.

Response

To preface, I am no fan of the Republicans.

First, it appears you are not a lawyer yourself. Therefore, according to your criteria, it appears you lack credibility to speak on this issue as well.

Second, you critizise several conservatives for having no moral high ground and yet you fail to take it yourself in this article. Case and point: referring to these conservatives as the "extra chromosome crowd." Sounds a little like "outright hypocrosy and even slander" to me.

And one wonders why this newspaper is having difficulties. Maybe Jon Meacham should see how articles like this alienate many readers who weren't in the SDS in college.
