President McCain Would Be Unable to Bring Civility Back to Washington

These Comments as Proof
The comments/responses to this story is proof of the hatred and vitriol the right-wing brings to the table. They attack without facts and attack without shame. There is no mystery why the country believes McCain is running a nasty dirty campaign - one only need to read these comments from his supporters. That's what happens, though, when you have no ideas and no credibility.
RL calls Obama a "socialist and morally bankrupt chameleon". What's the matter Mr Schaefer of CA, can't argue on the issues so you have to resort to name calling? Typical.
Lack of Civility Transcends Parties
I think we will find that even an Obama victory will produce a short honeymoon, followed by the usual rancorous blame game. The next president inherits a mess of collossal proportions, with plenty of blame to go around for both sides of the aisle. Obama, with his calm demeanor and steady temperament, may be best equipped to handle this.
As to the other rants among these postings, Obama's views on abortion are in line with those of most eduacated people. He is against partial birth abortion, with some exceptions. He most certainly would not advocate a babies death, if it was born alive during an abortion procedure, and yes, he would consider it a "punishment" to force a 14 or 15 year old girl to endure an unwanted pregnancy and try to cope with the responsibility of an infant. Most rational people would agree. Babies are a gift, but should likewise be born to those who are ready to accept and care for them responsibly. Too many babies come into the world without that protection, and if they are damaged by drugs or otherwise flawed, there are not enough adoptive parents willing to take them on.
Obamas tax plan would only increase the taxes by $750.00 for a person earning $250,000. Hardly the end of Capitalism as we know it! It merely returns the tax rate to where it was under Reagan and Clinton. With the huge deficits we are facing, this makes sense, at least for now.
A Little More Honesty
As an Independent, it has been extremely hard for me to put up with the media. The Candidates do what they always do -- discuss their strengths, so it is up to the other candidate to point out their weaknesses. This is not spite, and it is not "nastiness" or "uncivility." It is the candidates having to do the media's job for them! If you guys would look into the claims made by BOTH candidates, they would not have to run adds themselves.
Also it becomes insulting to us independents when we hear the media complain about "negative" or "attack" ads. DO YOUR JOBS, MEDIA!!! You should be exposing the flaws of the candidates!! When John McCain said in the FIRST debate that he would introduce a "spending freeze" in Washington to solve the financial problem, ask him some more questions about this!! What the heck does that mean?! Is it RossPerot-vian?! Which programs get cut? If we the American people are going to lose certain programs, how long does he expect us to "go without?"
When Barack Obama says "spread the wealth," why is it McCain's job to ask him questions about that? Why are you so damn fixated on Joe the Plumber when the rest of us just want to hear Sen. Obama explain himself. I have STILL not hear ANYONE in the media ask him any questions about this!! But I am damn sick of hearing about Joe the F'ing Plumber, all ready! Do any of you actually understand government?! It is impossible for McCain to vote "with Bush" as Sen. Obama claims in his ads -- Congress votes FIRST on bills, then the President votes. If anything Bush keeps voting with McCain! But then again, so does Kennedy and Fiengold!
Another thing... Both of these candidates talk about "reaching across the aisle." When I Google that, how I find zero articles by anyone in the media about either of these candidates being asked about how they will do that? I am sick of the unchecked rhetoric from both of them.
Is McCain really as squeeky-clean as the media is making out?? Why all the focus on Gov. Palin? Of the 4 people in the race she seems to be getting ALL -- and I do mean ALL -- of the attention! That is ASTONISHING! In the last 50 years, I cannot find a time where so much scrutiny and time was spent on the potential VP. The impression I am getting is that McCain is either untouchable or that nobody really does have any problem with him. That cannot be the case, can it?! The real battle seems to be Obama v. Palin. If that is not true, maybe you could help the rest of us out by actually running a "news campaign" (there is an idea) that focuses on Issues and Candidates. But the lack of interest in both shows us the media really knows neither!
Rules of Engagement in Question
How does the Chicago Machine not turn off the independents? Have their methods worked thus far? Answer to both , the Media -which overlooks Obamas' operatives & overreacts to the retaliatory response from McCain supporters.
MCain in 2008!
What is this, some skewed question that is it's own answer?Sorry ,save that for the first timers & drugged sheep.
COLIN POWELL
I once thought Colin Powell had character and integrity...Now, with his support of a socialist and morally bankrupt political chameleon, I can see him for what he truly is, just another political opportunist - Kicking the dying lion...
Negative campaigning
The first mistake that McCain was to pick Palin as a running mate. A person that does not have any knowledge and which is the reason they won't let her make any interviews on her own because they are afraid of what she will say. The second mistake that McCain made was listen to his campaign managers to do start a smear campaign against Senator Obama instead of talking about the real issues and have Painlin continue spreading rumors when it was her own office as a governor that she misused for her own personal use. They know that the people are tired of their negative campaigning but they have nothing left and they are going to keep doing until the last vote is in. But I know that america is not going to let an old angry man and a brainless running mate, that if anything would happen to McCain, would make Painlin the next president. That is too scary. Can you imagine her running this country? We would have another four years of Bush thinking and Bush actions. I for one am tired of it and I want some new ideas and most america want the same things that I do and for that reason, Senator Obama will be our next President!!!!!!
I'D BE MAD TOO
Now I don't have much use for John McCain, but I understand his anger - Watching the mainstream media give the "Empty O'Man" a pass on his Afro Centrist (racist) church, Ayers, Acorn, "...bitter white people... clinging to guns and religion.", "Iran is a small, unimportant country." "I'd invade Pakistan.", supporting infanticide, saying "I wouldn't want my children punished with a baby." "We need to redistribute the wealth." and, finally comparing an unwanted pregnancy to a STD with abortion as the cure.
Obama should be scorned as the glib, socialist, huckster he is - Instead he will probably be President - What has become of the honor and common sense of our nation?
Political Campaign, Civility? Certainly an oxymoron that is not in the public’s best interest.
Clearly, one man’s civility is another man’s obnoxious behavior…by whose definition is it now ‘uncivil’ during an election campaign to point out the opposing candidate’s pattern of personal associations, accomplishments (or lack thereof) and character issues? It is important for the public to know who they are voting for. Truthful, yet unsavory, facts about a candidate should not be suppressed in the name of ‘civility.’ Such knowledge about a candidate’s character is critical in a free society. With this information, voters have the opportunity to then do confirmatory research and then make a choice. No one is perfect but there are some alarms that should go off when information about a candidate’s life philosophy, religious and political associations (especially long-standing ones) do not match up with their political message. Sadly, you seem to suggest that all past problematic behavior should somehow be swept under the rug during a campaign under the guise of ‘civility.”
However, even sadder, it appears your liberal Obama bias is so deep that you feel free to speculate there would exist a negative political climate in Washington if McCain and Palin are elected. I would think that you might also, in such an article, have felt the need to discuss the fact that the country will have to continue to recover from the rather ‘uncivil’ comment by Michele Obama when she let us know that only recently had she finally been proud of America. How long will it take us to recover from the fact that Mr. Obama and his family attended a church that preached hate and where the pastor exclaimed “God damn America” and where it seems on occasion ‘my people’ were referred to as ‘whitey.’ I also believe civility was strained when Mr. Obama stated that he wanted to redistribute the wealth of U.S. citizens. Given all of this and more, I personally am of the opinion that McCain and Palin have been campaigning in a too civil manner. That said, I would like to respectfully (and yet I suppose you would consider it “uncivilly”) point out some of my concerns.
The polls suggest that many young voters will vote for Obama (because he is young and promising them the moon) and I predict they will be ‘uncivilly’startled when his ‘reforms’ kick in and their parents can no longer afford their college tuitions! It is certainly ‘uncivil’ to think that when a US citizen spends their working lives striving to be successful and finally make $250,000.00 a year here is the U.S. (because it is possible)they find they would have brought more money home if they had earned less. Your publication fails (and I would be so bold as to suggest that your failure to do so is ‘uncivil’) to tell the poor and middle class workers that the 'handout' (some say bribe for a vote) they will get from an Obama tax plan will mean nothing when they lose their jobs because their employers no longer can afford to hire them. Yikes! That will certainly take some Washington recovery time.
I'm shocked you are shocked
This is the biggest contest for the most important job on the planet. You expect it to be nice and civil? You actually believed any of the politicians that said that this time it would be a "different campaign?" Which planet are you from?
For you visiting aliens, the US presidential race is always the "the most important election ever"...every 4 years...and it is ALWAYS mean and nasty.
I will add that when you lose but keep your honor you are still a LOSER! If you lose by 1 vote vs. 5 million votes, you are still a loser. When behind in the polls, throw everything you have at your opponent including the kitchen sink....or else just give up and go home.
As far as Congress goes, it would be just terrible for the country if they could not work with a President McCain. It would be a true tragedy if our do nothing, politically posturing, gridlocked, and corrupt Congress becomes.......oh oh... how again was congress going to change if McCain becomes president?
