Will Obama's New Missile Defense Plan Strain Relations With Allies?
Yesterday, President Obama announced plans for a new missile defense strategy intended to strengthen European security, especially against the threat of Iran's continuing ballistic missile program. The new plan would reverse the Bush administration's preparations for defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic and focus on confronting Iran's short- and medium-range missile project. While Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has publicly praised Obama for the changes, the New York Times reports that critics worry the move could undercut relations with our allies in Eastern Europe. Others think that this might open new diplomatic opportunities in the region. What do you think? Is Obama's new strategy good for European relations? Post your thoughts below.

Why Spend Money to Defend Europe
Why should the US taxpayers spend their money on any missle system designed to defend Europe? They never support the US in anything we do. Let the Europeans spend their own money if they want a missle defnese.
One of the reasons European countries can afford health care and other social programs for their citicizens is that we pay for their defense. Its time to take care of people in the US and let Europe pay their fair share of their own defense.

Billions of taxes spent on United Nations, for what?
This is the founding policy of the United Nations--"War is not an acceptable solution to international differences." Alger Hiss heped form the UN, but Nixon (always funded by corporations) framed Hiss with a "doctored typewriter and sent him to jail. I forget where Nixon finally bragged of it, but he did admit it. The UN has been misused and abused. I dislike the fact that the Vatican is allowed to have observers there. The Holy See is historically capitalistic. See Pg. 1414, Vol. 4 of a volume of the Catholic Reference Encyclopedia. In the definition of "Private Property," it says the Church vigorously defends against those political systems that seek to replace private with public ownership." That policy, enforced by the UN and the US government, delays our having tax-paid "socialized medicine." We do have it for the military and Congress. When the US was formed, the government owned everything as public property. But in the Robber Era, Congress sold into private owneship the things that became public utiiities--oil, coal and mineral deposits, forests, water sources, RR rights of way, etc. Missiles must be replaced with diplomacy. Obama must use the UN PROPERLY to make peaceful coexistence work.
