Is a Second Stimulus Package on the Way?

Do we really need another, and how would it help?

Posted July 14, 2009

Writes Felix Salmon in opposition to more stimulus: "The stimulus has not done as well as people thought it would. This is a useful datapoint—and one way of looking at it is to conclude that the stimulus was so big that the last few hundred billion dollars have had virtually no positive effect at all. And that any extra stimulus would similarly achieve very little." Others, however, like Brad DeLong, think such naysaying is not very smart: "To say that what happened in the second quarter means that 'the last few hundred billion dollars have had virtually no effect' is like sticking your toe into the ocean and pointing out that your hair is still dry..." With Republicans already forming a line against a second stimulus, do you think a second stimulus package is in the cards? If so, would it help the U.S. economy? Post your thoughts.

YES TO ANOTHER STIMULUS PKG.

I have many friends and family that are looking to work anywhere here in NE Ohio, the job market isnt here for them. Some of them have been out of work for almost 2 years. We help the best we can to make their lives easier but we can only do so much. A second stimulus would allow extended time for the job market to open up as promised. If not, where are they going to get the money to feed the family? Pay the mortgage or rent? We are such a giving country and have been for years and years.......please let's fix our own problems in the US before handing out to other countries, we need back on our feet first to be the strong country we are.

By Tom Davis

Seven lessons the parties need to learn from Tuesday's races.

The 2009 off-year elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York's 23d Congressional District offer a small snapshot of the current views and motivations of the American electorate. While there may be a desire to extrapolate the events of Nov. 3, 2009 into a prediction of what will happen on Nov. 2, 2010, that is impossible.
