i belive that they should becuse i mean you cant really judge no body by ther esexuality iif they wont to help our conyry by risking ther =e lives then why not and i belive that obama should change the laws because whats the point a gay guy coukd come up in there and saay he iis str8 so... therefore it makes no diffeerence now iif he is coming up in there just trying get someebody well then thats a diferent story

gays in military

i think it should be okay for gays to be in the military and open about it. just because someone is gay it doesnt mean they're going to hit on everyone they stand next to.

Hell no

Hell No he should not change the rule, if they want to be gay fine but not in the military

Military Wife/ History Major

One of the biggest arguements to keep homosexuals out of the military is the housing and showering issues. If a man or woman is allowed to be openly gay in these situations it can cause alot of fights especially with the men. my husband told me about having to stand in a line naked waiting to take a shower. most heterosexual men would feel quite uncomfortable knowing they were standing next to an openly gay male. the rights of the heterosexual soldiers need to be respected just as much as the homosexual ones. its not right that hetero males will have to deal with situations like that. something needs to be worked out.

in responce to FREECHILD OF FL read your constitution nowhere in there does it ever mention seperation of church and state only that the head of the church (aka someone like the pope) cannot also be the president because they would be required to follow the catholic doctrines before the constitution. but NOT that the church and the state cannot be affiliated with one another and that laws could not be created based on religious values. separation of church and state is something our nation has come to accept as truth without checking thier facts. and our supreme court has set the presedence of ruling agianst laws that seem to be based on religious values. NOT because the constitution says so. its not what the founding fathers intended.

Gays in the Military

I think that gays SHOULD serve openly in the military. As you've read other comments, throughout history, there have been many homosexuals that were in the armed forces. I think we need to think out of the crummy box we dwell in and open our minds to new things. I'm sure people had prejudices a long time ago about the phonograph or even the computer, but we all have cell phones and at least a desktop in our houses. In order for us to be successful, we have to be able to adapt to change otherwise we would've been extinct a millenia ago.

Having gays in the armed forces. Who's it hurting? I know plenty of gay men and women who have had to deal with a corrupted society only to come out on top. Gay men and women would be in the military serving their COUNTRY. They're not there because they care about what you think. A soldier is a soldier regardless of their personal beliefs. They are serving america. Fighting for our right to be free.

Religion is a root not to be discussed, because there IS a separation between church and state, or did some of us not remember our history?

Homophobes are people who are insecure about their sexuality. Most, if not all, my friends are hetero and their golden rule is, "Don't hit on me." And on the off chance they do get hit on, they just say,"I'm flattered, but I'm straight." That usually resolves it.

It doesn't make you any less of a soldier if you're gay.

What's the difference

What is the difference between gays and straights besides one likes the same sex and one likes the opposite sex. How does being gay affect the way the job is done? I am 16 years old and im thinking about serving my country when i get out of school no i am not gay but i was taught that you shouldnt judge a group of people or a individual by thier beliefs or religion or any physical feature or backgrounds. Thats just like going back to slavery and any other prejudice or descrimination grounds. "One Nation indivisible,

With Liberty and Justice for all". What is an American? All Americans seek personal liberty, to live as they see fit Americans are united by a love of liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness and respect for the freedom of others and an insistence on their own rights. Freedom is a blessing and we should follow them whether we like it or not, because everyone should be treated equally, so if one gets freedom the other gets the same, How can we take that away? If you take the rights and freedom from an idividual we can no longer be called "the land of the free".

Gays in the Military

I served in the military and there were those that you knew were gay. Especially in Basic Training. We did not care. We considered him a brother and a member of the flight. You can't protect the gays though and show them favoritism. If a soldier complains that a gay soldier is making unwanted advances towards him, it should be investigated. The hedrosexual should not be given the fifth degree. They should be allowed in the military. In the same note they should be treated equal in the military.

hate crimes

This will be a good place to test the hate crimes bill if it is forced down upon us! the gay guy hits on a stright guy in the shower, the stright guy inlights him on staying 20 ft. away from him at alltimes. The gay complains the stright guy goes to jail, the other soldiers drop out like flys !!!! Guess the military will have to make arangements for each sexual group!

A gay officer gave George Washington military advice

I can't real his name, but a famous Old World (gay) military expert gave Washington valuable advice about how to beat the British and win the American Revolution. Alexander the Great, famous for "conquering the world with his army, had a gay lover.

Maybe a gay soldier might fight even harder to kill enemy soldiers who are shooting at his gay lover in battle.

Gays in the military

I don't know if Elaine Donnelly was in the military but I was for over 20 years which may give me a perspective that she lacks. Except for a decreasing number of hardcore homophobes, our country has accepted gays as part of society. A belief that the military can't do this is an insult those in uniform.
