Why Is Obama More Overtly Religious Than Bush?

He Doesn't Know What He Is talking About
President Obama states that he is a Christian. I have serious doubts. Remember Howard Dean? He stated he was one as well - then went on to display an incredible lack of knowledge of Scripture. Shall I state the obvious? Claiming a faith takes much more than just words - and potent words at that! Have you seen President Obama's You Tube video where he takes a series of Old Testament verses and stories out of context? Why is he so ardently "pro-choice" instead of "pro-life?" Why make enemies with Israel? Why make close friends with Saudi Arabia and Venezuala? Invoking the name of Christ is meaningless unless one walks the walk.
And who schooled him in this faith? Reverend Jeremiah Wright - the pastor who was not ashamed to use his pulpit to make a series of vulgar political outbursts instead of his given assignment (glorifying God and illuminating Scripture). Pastors are not precluded in stating their political beliefs, but they are also charged to lead their flock in a manner that teaches, corrects, comforts, trains, and challenges. Was God glorified in his outbursts? Did the people have a clearer picture of Who God was? No. There was no mention of God, nor of Jesus Christ. Yes, he will be held accountable for what he did.
The true measuring stick is this - using Jesus' own words in Matthew 7:21-23. You will read of Jesus kicking out pseudo-believers who used His Name in driving out demons, performing miracles, and prophesying. Why did He banish them? Jesus stated that they weren't doing His will.
President Obama is frighteningly polished and articulate. I believe his incredible style can blind us - potentially making us unaware of his true substance (motives). I see him as a slick politician who says (via teleprompter) what is expedient. I do not see him as a believer in Christ.
We Christians are called to pray for President Obama, and also to honor the position he fills (Acts 23:5). People can change. Presidents can too. One Old Testament king did - King Manasseh. This is what I pray for.
All the MORE reason you need to accept Jesus
This comment is in response to the atheist from California. My advice to you would be to pick up a Bible; and read why we are instructed to tithe. I would also encourage you to learn more about Jesus. The Bible speaks of people such as yourself who are LOST. I will pray for you that you come to the realization that you need Jesus in your life to fell totally fullfilled. People like you act as if you are so intelligent; and you put down "religion." I am not talking about "religion." I am talking about knowing that Jesus died on the cross for ALL of us; so that once we know Him personally, we will be forgiven for our sins. President Obama is showing us daily that he is a Christian man; and is in this for the best interests of EVERYONE. People need to focus on the issue at hand; and that is he is TOO REAL for most people to accept; because so many peole, like yourself, are being FOOLED by the enemy, Satan. Before you make comments that are so ignorant and so "wordly", you truly need to look in the mirror and pray this prayer, "I rebuke the enemy, in the mighty name of Jesus. I ask you to come into my heart and I will accept you. Please forgive me for my sin of DENYING you." I am not perfect myself; by far; but people like you make me sick to my stomach. You are so lost and confused; you need some help and guidance. Look to Jesus. He will help you see the light. Hopefully you do so before it's too late. May God bless you.
Angela bossy about Christ
Angela says "We need to ALL claim Christ and get our lives in order." The fasces is the name of the bundle of handles of war-axes, tied together. Fascism demands that there be NO DIFFERENCES. All must be the SAME. Every one in the world population is supposed to be turned into a believer who tithes to ONE TRUE GOD. This comment by Angela tells exactly what is dangerous and wrong about religion. I was born an atheist. My study of science makes me positive that gods were invented to start the scam of conning people into giving a huge tenth of their lifetime income to a church. Although our Chief Executive publicizes his Christianity, with its accent on the inferior place of woman as an aide to man, he was able to get a law that says bosses must pay women the same wage as men for the same work. That's an amazingly fine accomplishment. It means fewer women will be forced into prostitution. Their social security benefits will be greater, so fewer will need welfare in old age. Congress is packed with Creationists, so maybe he has to refer to religion now and then to placate them.
Unpatriotic, treasonous rallying of "The Religious Vote."
When a preacher convinces his congregation of 1000 people to vote for a candidate, he nullifies the vote of l000 people who voted independently for the other candidate. It's the same corrupt system that existed when "ward bosses" traded government jobs for votes. It's a danger to the republic to interfere with the electoral process, the way Nixon did, with his Watergate crooks. The Founders said the Republic is served by having an educated electorate. That is not possible when people are told to limit their reading to holy books. It's 2009, and so far only a very small number of atheists have even tried for public office. They would be the best managers of tax revenue because they wouldn't let a penny of it be used for religion. Instead of subsidizing churches--"ministering to the health of the soul," atheist lawmakers would build public hospitals to cure illness and keep people well. Congress and legislatures are packed with believers who say the world is less than 6000 years old. Imagine such a state of ignorance being accepted by voters. Famous atheists include Smithson--the Smithsonian; Morse, telegraph; Edison and Burbank.
Is Obama more religious than George Bush?
I do not know the answer to that; what I DO know is that Obama is REAL and not fake and phony like Bush and many other so-called politicians and Upper class folks. He will not deny Jesus publically....read about that in the Bible. He ACKNOWLEDGES Him instead; the way a true follower of Jesus is instructed to do. People need to get their heads out of their behinds and quit falling for all of the fake nonsense and LIES that so many previous politicians have thrown on the American people. Obama is not a socialist; he is a REALIST. He knows what needs to be done to get this country back on track. Because if you hadn't noticed; George Bush has/had us on the verge of an actual collapse. He has left our great nation almost in ruins; and Obama is cleaning up his mess. So, get off his back. Yes, he claims Jesus Christ with no problem. He is suppossed to do this. We need to all claim Him and get our lives in order. There are signs all around us; and evryone needs to pay attention. Obama is merely trying to make the wrongs that have been done to so many people....right. Give him the credit.....but give the ultimate credit to Jesus Christ. Because it is through HIM....that the positive changes Obama is making to help everyday people...........are possible.
Is Obama more overly religious than Bush
I believe the key word is religious to me this means you do it over and over again you get up drink coffee read paper etc. The question is he is a christian whether Muslim, Baptist, Lutheran, this mean a change in how you look at your fellow man at home or abroad your neighbor being a Christian means changes not only for you but for every-one all people it crosses racial barriers all classes like Jesus did we must have a ear to hear the people and come as close to doing what god would have us to do even if it does not feel good for Americans. That why I say Christianity is a change in thinking and the way you feel and do toward your neighbors and the world in general where as religious your mind set stays the same business as usual the people suffer and you have the blame game this is why I say he is a Christian he is saying Lord Jesus I need your guidance and help that a good thing. Thank you for letting me express my opinion.
What?
It's not a competition of who is more Christian than who because such a scale does not exist. They don't have to mention Jesus Christ by name to prove anything. Though, Obama has been irrationally accused by the public of being a 'radical Muslim' who 'will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance' so maybe he feels obligated to show the world he is not. The whole matter is idiotic. It wouldn't matter to me whether he was a Christian, a Muslim or an Atheist because religion should not be mixed with politics anyhow.
Don't
The last thing any Christian should want would be to have his faith compared to the mean-spririted, phony religiosity of George W.Bush.
I am not impressed.
Any knave can spout scriptures. Look at the evangelicals who loot their flocks. Look at megachurch preachers who sell books, tapes, and charge for lectures. Look at Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and others who use their status to scoop the loot.
Any knave can spout scriptures.
The Ku Klux Klan used the bible as an excuse for segregation and religious hatred for years. Imams use the Holy Koran for everything from clitoral circumcision to honor murders of children to demands for women to be kept in bondage to incitement to murder Christians and Jews. Bibles are carried by buggerers and Ponzi schemers and Torahs by meatpacking slavers.
I am not impressed and anyone who is (or is sucked in by this posing and posturing) needs to have his right to vote taken away as an imbecile.
Because his religious affiliation is still questionable...
With Bush, there was no question if he was a Christian. He allowed a public service of prayer at the White House for the National Day of Prayer. Obama did not. Bush never questioned the Christian heritage of the nation and falsely say we're the largest Muslim country. Obama did. Bush said we should look to God when the country was in trouble like on 9/11 or the shuttle Columbia disaster. Obama has not. Though to be fair, Obama really hasn't had a major disaster yet except the stimulus bill/economy. But then again, as far as I remember, Bush didn't refer to God when the economy was rapidly going down hill during the last year of his administration. Also, Obama's middle name is part of the problem. Yes, I know it isn't his fault about that, but there are still many people who do have this stereotype of the president because of his middle name. His pro-choice stance is also contradictory of most (notice I do not say all) Christian beliefs.
