Close GM
For 30 some years, GM has watched Japanese companies erode American sales. There response has largely been to build bigger and faster cars and truck, unreliably built, and no real innovation. They asked for what they now face, and how can you chop up a company, throw money at them to save a few hundred thousand people, who only know how to build what America really does not want. I have always bought American, but no more.....Toyota and Honda exemplify reliability, resale value, economy, and looking elsewhere nowadays is shear stupidity.
Let GM fall, and if there is still a market for new car in America, then let someone start a company that reflects the needs and demands of the times.
Most Haven't a Clue...
That's why you don't leave decisions like this up to voters.
Look at the economic indices - all bottoming out or showing improvement. GM will have to survive on its own merits when it comes out of bankruptcy. Nothing wrong with half its employees keeping their work. We'd spend the same on unemployment and benefits for depressed workers sitting at home. Might as well makes some cars while we're at it.
Everyone benefits from keeping GM open too - demand for all types of goods holds up better, and this helps other shopkeepers and producers of goods.
The government bought shares in GM. At some point we will be able to sell those shares and get our money back. If all goes well, the taxpayers could get far more back than we paid.
Patience, please, and take a long term view of things. Also - it's sad to see so many people who know so little be so adamantly against a thing they poorly understand.
The Right is spitting out so much bitterness daily - it is becoming their personality. We used to be a country of community and lending a hand. Now - do we only help those who agree with us or belong to our church, or look like us, or?
I for one am relieved that our president has decided to do what is best for the country as a whole. That's why we have a president instead of a partisan food fight
The recession has already been softened by his decisions, but many don't want to credit him with making such a difference. They want to be right - even if it means tearing this country to shreads....
People like to complain when they are frightened. Your poll reflects people hanging onto their hope that pure capitalism will save us. They forget that pure capitalism is a sweet date when times are good, but she is a crual disciplinarian in bad economic times. They better hope that pure capitalism does not come to their door in these ecoomic times - and no one lends a hand.
GM Failure
What the people want is of no interest to this Administration. BO has his agenda and to hell with the rest of us (especially those who have actually worked, earned a living, and accumulated some "wealth" he can redistribute).
