Is Obama Playing Identity Politics by Picking Sotomayor for the Supreme Court?

Posted May 29, 2009

Obama's choice of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court is facing a common strand of criticism from conservative opponents. Conservative Peter Kirsanow expresses this with the following: "The nomination of Judge Sotomayor demonstrates that identity politics not only remains alive and well, but may be accompanied by an unabashedly racialist interpretive doctrine." Is Judge Sotomayor's appointment based on identity politics? Does Sotomayor hold an "unabashedly racialist interpretive doctrine"? Post your thoughts. And don't forget to check out the debate on Sotomayor's nomination in The Chat Room.

Sotomayor

When she states in her own words that the Appeals Court made POLICY, why on earth would anyone believe she is not about her own agenda verses true interpreting of the law. The law which is to be BLIND to color, race, and creed...... she is obviously NOT.

Supreme Court Judge

Let us NOT choose a person because they are male or female. Were we supposed to choose a president that was a female because she was a female? That should not be a consideration. And where the person is born, and his or her ethnicity should not be the issue! Will this person be unbiased? Or will they give others with their own background the breaks? It should be someone who is acquainted with the law and the Constitution, and who will apply the laws justly, with all fairness. We don't need a person who will look out for those of his or her own ethnicity. Everyone needs to be treated fairly, not just a few of us.

Catching the truck

President Obama is about to catch the truck he has been chasing with this lady! I suspect the liberal left is about to get their proverbial *** kicked, LoL!

She has no allegiance to anyone except her own view of what is right and wrong. All of us can interpret the constitution and the law to serve our own perspectives. A good example is the prosecution vs. the defense. How many innocent people have been convicted because of how the facts were interpreted?
