Should Bush Administration Officials Be Prosecuted Over Torture?
Reader Comments
Yes
The Bush administration should definitely be prosecuted. As far as i'm concerned, they commited war crimes and are responsible for many innocent peoples deaths. We shouldn't have even been in Iraq and after Saddam, we should have been in Afghanistan looking for Bin Laden.
spelling
YOU SPELLED PUNISHMENT WRONG!!!!!!!!
Move on...
We can't change the rules and punish someone for following the old rules. We have enough to fix from the Bush Administration. Let's move on and fix the problems we have.
Torture Prosecutions
George W. Bush was "the decider."
In 2004, Bob Woodward published a book,
based upon his unprecedented and exclusive
access to the dynamics of George W. Bush's presidency.
Woodward assured the nation that George W. Bush was
fully in charge. There was no "co-presidency" with VP
Dick Cheney.
So there are two issues:
(1) Do we want the first Black President prosecuting
his white predecessor for capital crimes, such as kidnapping, torture and felony murder?
(2) Shouldn't George W. Bush be prosecuted for the greater crime of launching a war of aggression against the Iraqi people, without any justification whatsoever? The very earth between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, soaked with the blood of 100,000 innocent Iraqis, who are dead and would be alive today but for George W. Bush, and his attempt to divert attention from his non feasance on 9/11, cries out for vengeance!
In the alternative, discretion being the better part of valor, we could simply proceed on the assumption that the 2008 election represented America's total rejection of the values embodied by the Republicans and just get on with building a more honorable, wiser, and more humane national purpose.
King Pinocchio and Torture
Everyone connected, Republicans and Democrats, should be hauled before a Independent non-partisan Commission and made to answer when, where, and how they found out about torture. Enough of the lies, deceit, and manipulated intelligence, and missing e-mails.
Why were the Japanese and Germans executed after World War 2, for committing the same torture?
What is the definition of the word Colonialism? See if the end result of Colonialism is the deliberate murder of 3,000 American Citizens on 9/11.
Colonialism made King Pinocchio yank us out of Afghanistan just when we had Bush family friend Bin Laden and al-Qaeda in our clutches and instead sidetracked us into a country with no ties to 9/11.
But the Neo Con owned Conglomerates and their bought off Politicians have all profitted off the backs of over 4300 dead American soldiers in Iraq.
Treason is Treason!
Prison For Life!
They should all get prison for life, or something worse.
TORTURE AND WAR CRIMES
iN THIS ARTICLE YOU MENTION THAT CHRIMINALIZING WAR CRIMES IS A POLICY DIFFERENCES, I SAY IF Pelosi NEW THAT THEY WERE COMMITTING THOSE CRIMES SHE SHOULD GO TO JAIL WITH Cheney and the rest of those who new, my opinion is that president Bush was just the puppet and did not know what was going on, so i would give him a pardon.
torture
they are not above the law.take to trial
Changing the rules after the fact.
There is still a provision in the Constitution that prohibits "ex-post facto laws" and "bills of attainer".
Of course actually following the Constitution is not acceptable to some, especially if invalidates their stupid opinions.
Should Bush Administration Officials Be Prosecuted Over Torture
How can you criminalize now, that which was not criminal at the time it was committed, and was widely accepted as good and right? Congress knew about water boarding and the CIA's interrogation tactics 6 years ago, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi knew about it, the American people knew over the years about it. The written record to prove that is there. Why this witch hunt now?
Plus - criminalizing policy differences opens a very wide door. At some point Obama and his staff will leave office, and at that time perhaps Republicans will once again rule Do you think they will not remember such behavior and there will be no quid pro quo for such a partisan act? Then this idiocy will never end. We are on the path to becoming a Banana republic with this. Obama should have put an end to it long ago. Remember, he was going to bring us together? He will be Condemned in history if this goes forward.
And BTW: why title it "Should Bush Administration Officials Be Prosecuted Over Torture?" You have already judged and condemned by the title the accused. I don't call it torture, neither did Congress at the time it knew, why do you? You should be ashamed of yourself.
