Obama Is Wrong When He Says We're Not a Judeo-Christian Nation

BRAVO!
Keep up the good work Randy!
People Need the Lord
People need the Lord at the end of broken dreams he's the open door.. Isn't that a true song. Whoever wrote it must have had a realization of this fact at one point in their lives. I'm confident that nothing can seperate us from the love of God and all will come to the realization that Jesus Christ is Lord. The bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue confess... No man knows the day nor the hour but the day is coming when Jesus will come to wipe away every tear, to give beauty for ashes, to restore the lost, to take away all that causes sin... Oh what a joyous day that will be. Will you be ready when he comes?
Judeo-Christian? No.
This nation was not founded on the principle of any one religion. The key focus on religion is the ability to freely choose to worship. Many of the principles often cited by the proponents of a "Judeo-Christian nation" are not unique to Judaism or Christianity.
However, this country was founded upon laws and legal traditions that are based firmly in classical Greco-Roman moral codes. It's probably more accurate to state we are a Greco-Roman nation!

Whose Lack of Gratitude?
It seems the congressman has taken President Obama's words and re-written them to suit his own political agenda. Christ was not a politician. If one genuinely holds His love in his heart, he would seek love and not condemnation. While our Founding Fathers gave rise to a nation built upon Judeo-Christian tradition, they also envisioned a land that would be a haven for the oppressed. The greatest oppression the early Americans escaped was that of a Christian nation that did not tolerate any religious belief besides its own. Would the congressman prefer a King George ruling over us to label us all Christians (and, specifically, Anglicans)? And if it is so shameful to be Muslim, who should we have to thank for our number system, knowledge of astronomy, architecture, calculus and the arts? The Islamic era raised the arts and sciences to a degree that the world had never seen, as Christian nations were inflicting the severest horrors in the name of Christ for political expediency. Refer to history intelligently rather than make sweeping pronouncements of damnation. It may be convenient to seek a scapegoat for political failings, but it is not the true spirit of Christ. To love one's enemies and even forgive one's assassins is the path of true salvation. Any intelligent and thinking being would be able to see that Obama is exemplifying Christ's teachings more faithfully than those who spout off blame and hurl insults. The Muslim world may hold views that do not conform neatly with ours. However, I believe that our president will be on the right side of history for reaching out to build bridges of understanding and heal wounds that have divided our world. His actions are bold, compassionate and possibly unpopular. He is in good company.
Lack of Gratitude
It seems to me that our current "president" has a lack of gratitude for divine providence. This was not the case of some of our past presidents. George Washington said: "It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors." Is America's president obeying God's will and being grateful? Obviously not. Instead, he's catering to politically motivated men. When America starts denying that Jesus Christ is the God of Deliverance who lead America out of oppression, then she denies access to the powers of heaven to defend us against the enemies of freedom.
America being a Christian Nation
I happened upon your web site for the very reasons that you have written your article. I would like to add something, in Obama's speech in Turkey he stated that he had lived in a Muslim country. As well as we were not a Christian Nation. It is my concern that Obama is a predomently a Muslim believing man. I believe that he has been introduced to the Christianity faith, but the Muslim religion is where is heart is.
If this is true I am concerned that we are walking down a very shaky path, as most Americans believe we are a Christian Nation. If you think that they are up in arms over abortion, and gay marriage just wait to see the division in our country if he succeeds, and passes this into law. I remind you of a very good Bible verse: "United we stand devided we fall". This will be a fight that will not go away, just as the abortion issue hasn't! Note: Even Obama admitted that the Abortion Isue was IRRECONCILABLE!!!
Furthermore, Obama could favor the Muslim Religions over Christianity, and succeed by claiming it is in the name of peace, and reachimg out to predomenently Muslim Nations in an attempt to settle thing down, and change the worlds view of America! How much of our Christian Rights are we going to have to give up, in order to get peace with the Muslim Nations? What will happen in America if we denounce our Christian Faith?
Are we going to add to our coins, buildings, and pledges to our country "In God, and Mohamad we trust"? If you think this is way out there, and could not possibly happen, I believe if we continue down this path that this is a real possibility!!!
The whole world has become a huge chess game, where each move is well thought out, planned, and carried out. We cannot even do what is best for our country because if we do it will have ecconomic disadvantages, poor attitudes toward America, and other negative things! The problem is, the countries we have chosen to play with are not our friends, some would wish America would fall, many of the key players are not honest with their business dealings with our country!Yet we are held to a standard of fairness, and scrutinized!
The real question is, is Obama merely trying to improve relations, and does he have pure motives concerning his statements RE: religion, and this country? Or is it deeper than we know?! Either way, I find it hard to believe that we won't have to recognize Mahamid in prayers, in writings on buildings etc. Where will it end once it begins?! "United we stand, devided we fall"!!! This will devide our country, and for a very long tine, as abortion has!
In closing, It is my belief that many Americans voted their pocket books in this last election, and once they get the tax bill, and other headaches, they will be sorry. By then it will be too late! Once laws, and situations change it is very hard to reverse it! In a big way, I hope that I am wrong about my concerns! I will just keep praying for America, and our politicians!
Acticule 11
I looked this thing up and I believe they are saying we are based on a chruch however we do follow christian priniciples
Problem with Article 11
The problem of Article 11, Julia, is that its debatable as to whether the is such a thing as Article 11. The book Treaties and Other International Agreements of the United States of America, 177-1949, by Charles I. Bevans declares that it doesn't exist and it is relatively unknown as to why it is included in some translations and copies. The following point, Article 12, has been translated by Dr. C. Snouck Hurgronje of Leiden and it is found to contain four references to God.
With this in mind, it is safe to say that the Treaty of Tripoli is not a reliable source when determining if America is a Judeo-Christian nation or not.
We cleared this issue in 1796
The issue of whether or not we are a Christian nation was made clear in the Treaty of Tripoli of Barbari when our 5th Congress spelled it out clearly in Article 11:
http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/bar1796t.asp
For those of you that can't be bothered to look it up it states:
ARTICLE 11.
As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
Obama was doing no more than restating what has been promised to Muslim nations since the very beginnings of our country, and yet we're still fighting over it. Read your history, Senator, before you condemn his words.
