Republicans Look Backward to Gingrich, Secession, and Socialism

Socialism argument is getting tired

Do republicans in this country really know what socialism is? Or is it just another one of their scare tactics they use to control the US psyche? They call Al Gore an alarmist, yet they scream about socialism whenever Obama does anything to correct the mess republicans are largely responsible for in the first place. After sitting back and watching Bush squander the first projected surplus in the last half century, now suddenly they are concerned about spending. I suggest if any of you really think this is socialism, try living in a real socialist country. You'll see how absurdly ridiculous those charges are. Besides, it's only socialism when the policies don't support status quo with those in power start to lose their grip.

Era of Hate is over with

Thanks for clarifying the liberals point "losers" . it is precisely your outlook that shrank your party into oblivion. Ronnie Rayguns tried that "blame it all on the poor" nonsense all the while he was trading arms for hostages, poisoning us citizens and giving Saddam Chemical weapons. Your ideas are tired and old, much like your constituency. Get a grip

Misses the target

OK, well obviously the GOP wouldn't HAVE to go back to Cold War arguments if Obama hadn't decided to go back to the long disgraced socialist policies of the Soviets! Get your messiah to act like an American president and we'll easily abandon that "past"!

was it a contest?

Did us news and world report hold a contest looking for the most cliched and shallow lefty hack in new England, and this silly man-child Schlesinger won.

The bigger question is why would Conservatives take advice from children like Schlesinger and McCain?

The old left know the ideology they cling to has failed in the past and will fail in the future but are unwilling to reject it because rejecting leftism is like rejecting god.

As the stench from the bodies of it's victims fades a new vanguard of morons clamor to take the place of those who have learned the lesson of history and have skulked off to the shadows hoping to be forgotten.

LOSERS ARE LIBERALS!

Those who think capitalism is wrong are the

weak losers that bring America down. We feel

no sorrow for the pathetic losers who don't finish school

or just want to complain about their color, ethnicity

or their up-bringing as a crutch for their failures. Hard

work, many hours of study etc make winners. Everyone here

has an equal chance to excel. This loser administration wants

all the losers to have their hand outs. These kids today

belong in the military right out of high school and maybe

they will learn the respect that is not taught in their homes

today that is sorely needed. You have no respect for yourself

or for your country if you follow the loser liberal way!!!

Bizarre?

Hmm, the concept that people should govern themsleves and that the power of the central government should be limited is somehow lost in the past to this author?

And somehow you seem surprised that people are talking abourt states rights and secession again? Can you seriously wonder why opposition to you statists is beginning to gel?

The fact that the North won the war settled nothing at all, they were just able to arm enough people willing to fight to impose its will. Might and right are not synonyms.

The basic issues of states rights were never settled in any way shape or form other than through conquest. And whether you like it or not, many college educated tax paying middle class types like myself are beginning to serously wonder why they should be bound to a bad deal their ancestors signed generations ago.

We are two nations sharing one space, that is why there cannot and will not be actual bipartisanship, the philosohies of the two parties are irreconcilable at this point. Political discourse is so shrill that no matter what half of the country is going to hate the other half when the other guys have power.

There is no middle ground in American politics anymore. You either favor the growth of a very powerful central government, or you do not. Problem is that this is no longer like choosing between shades of the same color, now the options are so far apart that there is little possiblity of compromise.

And for what its worth, the leftists have been stuck in the 1960's or their entire lives, its hardly only one side.

Speaking of bizarre sovereignty theories,

About time to use the whiteout on the 10th amendment, isn't it?

As to secession, Mises Institute has a look at International law as well as the U.S. law. The international view is important in these days of those think "globally"
