Afraid of Mexican Swine Flu, Happy With Obama's First 100 Days
Bloggers on Mexico, swine flu, Obama's first 100 days, and the first UFO embassy on earth
Our daily look at stories and topics that are lighting up the Internets:
Mexican Swine Flu
Welcome to the blogosphere, where even swine flu is cause for partisanship. Conservative Michelle Malkin takes it away: "Any natural disaster or bio-catastrophe that comes along, for which fiscal conservatives refused to support funding for in an economic recovery package, will now be all. Our. Fault. And President Obama can once (again) invoke his time-tested alibi: He inherited the problem." More of this here. Big Tent Democrats kind of proves her point. Marc Ambinder gets existential on the government. This blogger lets us know what to expect from swine flu. Liberal James Ridgeway draws lessons from previous flu scares. Gardiner Morse wonders what businesses can do to protect themselves from a pandemic. And liberal Dan Amira reports Obama is healthy after a possible exposure to swine flu while in Mexico City. Oh, and here's what the U.S. military is doing about it.
Grading Obama
The trickle of blogging on Obama's first 100 days is turning into a steady steam today. Expect more thoughts on the subject as the week gets under way. Here's how the blogosphere is grading Obama (if he were taking the presidency pass/fail):
Pass: Andrew Sullivan isn't surprised much by Obama's performance, which isn't to say he's unhappy with what he's seen: "We have an adult in charge. And we have civil public reasoning back in a persuasive president." Foreign policy experts write a report card on Obama's foreign policy here. Liberal John Feffer counts as many achievements as disappointments on the foreign policy front. Here's a word-cloud of the most common words in Obama's public utterances. Arianna Huffington counts the pluses and the minuses of Obama's short tenure, noting that so far, so pretty damn good. The DNC gets ready to make the case, too. And Robert Schlesinger explains the significance of a president's first 100 days.
Fail: There aren't many bloggers failing Obama yet. Which isn't to say that there weren't a few thinking about kicking Obama out of their class. Well, maybe conservative Elliott Abrams would let Obama pass with a D. He writes: "The D reflects the abandonment of brave men and women throughout the world fighting for human rights and civil liberties." Conservative Rory Cooper sees less good, more bad, and even more ugly about Obama's term in office. Here's the abbreviated list of woes: missile defense, North Korea and Iran, Cuba, the defense budget, counterterrorism policy. And John McCain didn't even make it to the presidency, but Walter Shapiro still fails him.
... Meanwhile ...
Mapping the swine flu... The news on torture you missed this weekend... Mitt Romney, the Madonna of American politics... And Kazakhstan, seeking to demonstrate the nation's "forward thinking policies," builds the world's first UFO base and alien embassy.

Obama's 100 Days
The news will have you believe Obama is doing a great job with all he has on his plate. He did of course take a job with loads of problems. Problems caused by failed policies of a congress that had control the last two years of the Bush White house. This same congress is still in control and Obama is slowly turning our country into a large Government run, one party rule country. Take over of the banks, Large companys, health care, state and local governments and disreguarding our freedoms and rights is the norm in his first 100 days. We did not elect a king, we the people is the cry of our revolution with the British. I am sorry if you voted for him. But get over it. He is not doing what his promised. He has taken control of our country and we the people need to wake up speak up tell our government EMPLOYEES who the work for. The need to follow our laws, respect our rights, and listen to the majority of the people in this country.
Obama's 100 days
What modern day presient has had such unprecedented back to back crisis to face as Obama has faced. I am one who is extremely thankful we have a rational thinking adult back in the white house. I still get the jitters when I think of what the alternative would have been. You betcha!
