Obama Energy Test: End Foreign Oil Addiction With as Few Ugly Trade-offs as Possible

Roan

I've been to the Roan. It's not the pristine paradise the enviros would have you believe. It's full of dirt roads, graffiti, ATV's, beer cans, and cow dung. And this Farrell joker completely misses the point. The argument for drilling there has nothing at all to do with energy independence since there IS NO OIL UNDER THE ROAN PLATEAU!! It's natural gas, not oil!! Come on, man-- do some basic research!

difficult perhaps, yes, but it will be beautiful

If Jimmy Carter's alternative energy tax credits were not destroyed, we would have gotten there already.

But that aside, it will be difficult because the clock is no longer on our side. We blew it by continuing to build gas-guzzing behemoths, which wasted 2 decades.

Also, for all new energy technologies, we need a tax credit for profit-sharing to stimulate production and increased employment.

That is, allow these businesses a tax credit for every dollar returned to workers, up to 20% of net profits. This will increase household income quickly and would be a built-in stimulus. It would pay for itself with a widened tax base and increased productivity. This is also a politically neutral solution, dovetailing conservative "supply-side" theory with liberal "economic democracy". It is the missing link that capitalism desparately needs. see www.profitsharinguprising.com for a free online treatise oulining the strategy.

Drilling

Drilling on US territory certain has been a non starter for several decades.

Why? Can't we do it in a responsible manner? Surely everyone knows we need the energy, and it's better than starting foreign wars. I would think we can agree on that.

Let's return to the idea of drilling "responsibly". Oops,I forgot, the gov would be regulating that. Never mind. We know from experience that our corrupt and clueless politicians can't pull anything off except feathering their own bed. No doubt any new drilling in the West would be fraught with corruption and cronyism.

Let's Review....

ALGORE's 10,000 sq. mile solar hot plate has a couple of problems. Al may have not taken into account that night must fall and there are cloudy days (who knew?). Therefore, one must have thousands of massive, highly toxic, storage/inverter facilities scattered across the nation. Furthermore, if you add home heating to the mix, you can double that 10,000 sq. miles. And if you're gonna be plugging in millions of electric cars into that grid you can triple it to 30,000 sq. miles. And, don't forget that you must then triple the number and/or size of storage facilities - which, in turn generate mountains of toxic waste. As usual, ALGORE is spewing Green propaganda and calling it science.

With regard to drilling for oil, it seems the greenies need be constantly reminded that today's drilling techniques, both on shore and off, are not of the Oklahoma Crude, gusher variety. A drilling footprint of a few acres can actually contain more than a hundred wells - drilled at angles. All contained in entirely inconspicuous underground vaults - Elk grazing on top - eagles soaring overhead.

Environmentalism and its boogeyman, Global Warming, has become an intolerant, hysterical and dogmatic State Religion - See it for what it is, Neo Pantheism. Don't follow their fluttering green banners back to the caves - It won't be a new Eden.
