Is Right-Wing Extremism Rising Because of the Economy?

The Department of Homeland Security thinks so.

Posted April 16, 2009

From a recent report by the Department of Homeland Security: "The consequences of a prolonged economic downturn—including real estate foreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit—could create a fertile recruiting environment for rightwing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past." Is right-wing extremism on the rise in the U.S.? Are some conservatives wrong, as Robert Schlesinger writes, to see the report as an attack "specifically timed to counter the 'Tea Party' movement"? Post your thoughts.

Clueless or just a LIAR?

I had a bad feeling when GWB declared the "Department of Homeland Security" because I knew it would be misused eventually. Absolutely no coincidence that Mr. Obama had this report released on the same day as the TeaParties. He also gave his version of Tax Simplification speech while saying "I was unaware of the TeaParties".

WE, including many former Obama supporters, are NOT GOING AWAY.

Arrogance

I can't believe they say the economy makes right wing extremists. No, you morons its the oppressive government that makes people want freedom and limited government as guaranteed in the constitution, not massive unlimited government power, police harassing and fining people all the time, massive imprisonment of non-violent drug offenders, continued looting of our money and sovereignty. The arrogance! What did you think was going to happen you morons? You call this right wing extremism? Call it whatever you want. You know what it is and you can't stop it from spreading. Its called the people taking power back from the federal government and international organizations. Its called our duty to invoke our constitutional authority to overthrow this government for its many violations of the constitution and abuse of power.

What the 2009 Elections Tell Us About 2010

By Tom Davis

Seven lessons the parties need to learn from Tuesday's races.

The 2009 off-year elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York's 23d Congressional District offer a small snapshot of the current views and motivations of the American electorate. While there may be a desire to extrapolate the events of Nov. 3, 2009 into a prediction of what will happen on Nov. 2, 2010, that is impossible.
