Janet Rowley, Tony Perkins Debate Embryonic Stem Cell Research

It is defiently not wrong.

How is it murdering? Human embryos are basically tadpoles and should be used for stem cell research to help people who are living keep living! Its just ridiculous

Both forms of stem cells needed

Adult stem cell research has been studied and funded for fifty years. Human embryonic stem cells only about ten-- and it has only received about one-seventh the amount of money given to adult stem cell research. Not surprisingly, adult stem cell research has a head start.

But to imply that adult stem cell research replaces embryonic stem cell research is a major error-- they are different tools.

Both forms of research should go forward.

The Lipinski-Forbes bill referred to is just another way to block funding for embryonic stem cell research. The same folks tried the same bill once before, only they called it the Hope Act.

Support all embryonic stem cell research

The religious right keeps claiming that embryonic stem cell research "murders" persons. If that is true, why can IVF clinics dispose of extra embryos without penalty?

Blastocysts are microscopic undifferentiated C-E-L-L-S, not fetuses, babies or people. How does one murder a cell?

Most of the claims for adult stem cell cures are phoney. Dennis Turner was for years claimed as an ASC "cure" even when his Parkinson's disease had returned.

The religious right is a completely unreliable and dishonest source of influence and opinion on this controversy. As a person who has suffered from Parkinson's for 13 years, I wish they would confine themselves to prayer and let scientists do their jobs.

It isn't murdering embryos in a sense

It isn't murderering embryos when they are using embryos that would have in other wise been discarded. Instead of letting those embryos that would have been put to no use why don't we use them to save people's lives and save them from suffering?

Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Today, Adult Stem Cell Research has helped over 100 people. As for Embryonic Stem Cell Research it has helped NO ONE! In fact, in the 11 years of research, ESCR has given us; Tumors, run-away cell growth, and even cancer.

We have success in ASCR, why not put our research money in the stem cell research that has proven to be successful...Instead of a research that maybe, someday, if given enough money, or if only we had more time - Blather.

We have people, TODAY, that need the Stem Cell help, not in maybe 20, 30 or even 60 years.

Ergo, ASCR, NOT ESCR.

self righteousness never saved anyone's life

Once again someone with authority but absolutely no scientific background makes a statement.

Is it ethical that religious beliefs of some be allowed to stand in the way of research that has the potential to actually cure diseases - not just relieve the symptoms - for millions of people suffering thus returning their lives and improving their quality of life exponentially? Why don't they oppose birth control or condoms.. they prevent "potential life" ... please.

MY eggs have potential if I choose it. I had two beautiful children and the other million eggs i was born with will die with me. If i were not too old to donate them all - i would; so that the people i love could have hope that their suffering might be brought to an end through this research. They are here and they are now - not potential but living individuals and they suffer because of self-righteous pious individuals with little or no scientific background just don't get it.

Stem Cells

I think that both of these should have appeared under the pro stem cell research. I find it funny that a liberal magazine would present two viewpoints as opposing when they are actually together on the matter.

Now let me say this much, there shouldn't be any reason to murder unborn children. Just because a man and a woman don't want to take responsibility for their actions doesn't make life less important. I personally think that it's time the government got out of the business of legislating morality. Murder is murder. In the landmark case of Roe vs Wade would it suprise anyone here if I said Ms. Roe is no longer in favor of Abortion on demand. She wishes that the supreme court would overturn the decision! A little food for thought.

Not Federal Funding

Federal Funding means funding inefficient actions resulting in limited success.

Embryonic stem cell research is permitted and if it has the potential everyone says it has there will be a flood of private investors.....

Don't you wonder why most of the smart money seems to be going to adult stem cell research?

Aren't you sick of WASTEFUL FEDERAL FUNDING?

Let's quit calling it Federal Funding and call it TAXPAYER FUNDING or WASTEFUL TAXPAYER spending.

just my $.02
