Is Obama Placing Science Before Politics in Embryonic Stem Cell Order?
President Obama signed an order Monday overturning the federal embryonic stem cell research funding ban. Explained President Obama: "The majority of Americans - from across the political spectrum, and of all backgrounds and beliefs - have come to a consensus that we should pursue this research. That the potential it offers is great, and with proper guidelines and strict oversight, the perils can be avoided." According to today's DataPoints, it seems the president is correct. Different Politics, But Still Politics
I favor Obama's move on stem cell research, but to say he is putting science above politics rings hollow; politics is still driving the train, just in a different direction now.

That assertion is just stupid.
By keeping government money out of embryonic stem cells (ESC), George Bush arguably spurred enormous research into IPSC work that has now made ESC research largely irrelevant, as at least one former head of the NIH has pointed out on this US News website.
Government money just slows valuable research by throwing resources into the work of incompetent people. It's nothing more than the shell game of "stimulus spending" writ on type of scientific work. If it doesn't work for the banks or GM, why would it work for the white lab coats?
People who support this are either hacks or liberals.
They certainly aren't thinking things through.
I hope he is placing science before politics
There is no way to completely prevent science from being influenced by politics but it should not be under the control of politics and ideology.
