Why Did Daschle Withdraw From His Appointment to the Dept. of Health and Human Services?

Posted February 4, 2009

Yesterday, former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle withdrew his nomination for secretary of Health and Human Services. Daschle cited the $146,000 he failed to pay in taxes as the reason for his withdrawal. The news comes in the wake of the confirmation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, an Obama appointee who also failed to pay his taxes fully. "This work will require a leader who can operate with the full faith of Congress and the American people, and without distraction," Daschle said in a statement. "Right now, I am not that leader." Is Daschle right? Is his failure to pay taxes a "distraction" that would have hampered his ability to serve the president? If not, was he wrong to withdraw? Post your thoughts.

Easy Anwser

This is an easy answer and is as plain to see as the nose on your face. Tom Daschle thought he was going to get a free ride by his Democratic friends. When he found out that he wasn't going to get any favors he decided to withdrawal before they found out about all the other money he has gotton off the books! Now I hope the IRS keeps on a digging and doesn't just stop at what he has disclosed because I think they will find a lot more money were that came from! More than likely his Democratic friends told him with that type of money you need to take a hike! With these guys making so much money why do they need a pay riase? They just want the American public to think they live off that money when in reilty they are millionares just like the baseball players. What a scam! Hey Tom help a buddy out and give me a million! You can afford it! If any one needs a good mortage rate I know a couple of Democratics that have a inside track to good rates! Not like us poor slobs!

Another potential staff appointee really makes me nervous. He is definitely not a friend of the family! Just one of the briefs he has filed opposes the Children's Internet Protection Act & the Child Protection & Obscenity Enforcement Act. I believe President Obama needs to give his potential staff appointees a lot of scrutiny. They need to live up to what he says he stands for. He's a family man. Everyone needs to pay their taxes & live up to the letter of the law before they're appointed to or voted in to office. I have always believed it is a very sacred trust. Thanks to my state senator McCaskill for calling the wall street execs idiots for taking the $ of the American People. Greed is a deadly sin. There is a book that teaches this that I'm sure I'm not allowed to mention. If you sign up to serve, then do it honestly & for the benefit of all! Sincerely, Barb Rice

Tom Daschle did the right thing and congratulations to him he is a good guy after all, he should do what he has to do to repair his reputation and then go on to other things to improve himself and his country.....everyone has the right to review his behavior and then go on to a better life style....cordially....
