Should Creationism Be Taught in Public Schools?

Debate over science and religion continues as we approach Darwin's 200th birthday

Posted January 26, 2009

Should creationism be taught in public schools? On one hand, some argue that treating the Bible as a threat blocks a legitimate avenue of study. On the other, opponents say that to deny natural selection is to ignore fact and that, with the bicentennial of Charles Darwin's birth approaching, the debate should have ended long ago. What do you think? Post your thoughts.

Science?

If Darwin were right beyond a reasonable doubt then it wouldnt be a controversy and it would be a law instead of the theory it is. It is a faith because you choose whether to believe it or not. You choose to believe it, I choose not to and that is our faith. Natural selection can be proven as variations within a species, as with the galapagos finch. There is no evidence to support completely new species with new DNA being formed through "evolution". We have not proven how a living cell could all of a sudden become alive nor how the first living cell became a multicellular complex organism. And unfortunately I do know a lot about evolution; my public school has made sure of that.

On top of that if evolution is true beyond a reasonable doubt, then why do you care if intelligent design is taught in schools. If evolution is not a theory, then why do you fear teaching alternatives?

You have no evidence that the bible is false. Besides that point, many who believe in intelligent design are not christians. Stephen C Meyer for example.

Darwin is right beyond a reasonable doubt.

Evolution is not a faith or belief system, evolution is a observable fact that can be proven, tested and is the truth. It is a scientific theory, and is not "just a theory." I find it very disturbing how so many people don't even understand enough about evolution to not sound ignorant. Creationism will never be taught in public schools here in America, it is not science, it is not factual and it is wrong. Sorry to break it to you but Creationism as described in the Bible is not true and is a lie

Creationism

creationism should be allowed in schools just as evolution should be allowed in schools. It will eventually be there so why not teach what they already know while science figures out the missing parts. Then later on the new parts can be added to the lectures as new information arises through. Religion on the other hand well i dont think that would be a good idea just yet. we need to figure more out about that stuff too. but eventually i would like to see all 3 (evolution, creationism, religion) taught in schools as a way to educate children on upcoming events in their lives.
