Would Clinton Foundation Pose a Conflict of Interest for Secretary of State?

Posted January 14, 2009

During yesterday's confirmation hearing for Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton, Sen. Dick Lugar voiced concerns over foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation. "The core of [the] problem is that foreign governments and entities may perceive the Clinton Foundation as a means to gain favor with the secretary of state," said Lugar, an Indiana Republican. The "Clinton Foundation exists as a temptation for any foreign entity that, or government that, believes it could curry favor through a donation. It also sets up potential perception problems." With at least $46 million donated to Bill Clinton's foundation by foreign governments, could Hillary's appointment as secretary of state pose a conflict of interest? What should be done to ensure the integrity of her designated position? Post your thoughts.

NO AMERICAN SHOULD BE RECEIVING GIFTS OR MONEY FROM COUNTRY'S THAT HATE US AMERICAN'S ,OR WANT TO HARM US.

ANYONE WORKING IN THE US GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ASSHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR TAKING GIFTS AND MONEY FROM PEOPLE THAT WANT TO TEAR DOWN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.THE GOVERMENT IS SUPPOSE TO BE WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES,NOT GAINING FOR MONEY FOR THEMSELVES.GOD HELP US!!!!!

I agree with Sen. Lugar

The source of funds is problematic, and I don't think that Mr. Clinton should be receiving large gifts from countries which promote terrorism (eg Saudi Arabia). As we know too well, the Clintons are only human. It's going to be hard for Hillary to negotiate with some rogue nation if at the same time Bill is getting funds for his trust from that nation (or its citizens). Mr Lugar is spot on in his criticism, and he's also right to suggest even tighter limits on contributors than the Clintons have currently agreed to.

conflict of interest

Are you kidding me...Mr. Lugar take as seat and for heaven's sake just be quiet!!!!. Aren't you Republications tired of opposing everything and anyone that can actually strengthn and secure our precious nation? Go Hillary... and show them how to do a job well done for the red, white and blue!!!!!!!!!!!
