Fighting continued in Gaza yesterday, despite a brief respite in violence and an Egyptian proposal for a cease-fire. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice "urged Israel on Wednesday to seriously consider an Egyptian cease-fire proposal as the U.N. Security Council weighed action to end Israel's attack on Gaza," according to Reuters. The Mubarak proposal, after Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, "calls for a limited initial truce to allow aid into Gaza and would then give Cairo time to broker a more permanent cease-fire." Would a short-term cease-fire between Israel and Hamas contribute to a long-term peace agreement? If so, what would such an agreement look like? Post your thoughts.
