How Should Barack Obama Handle Israel and the War in Gaza?

Posted December 30, 2008

"If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop that," President-elect Obama said last summer. "And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing." Israel's incursion into Gaza has given the Israeli-Palestinian issue a higher-than-expected place in the list of problems Barack Obama will confront in just a few weeks. As of yet, the White House hasn't said much about the conflict. How should President-elect Obama respond to the violence in Gaza? Post your thoughts below.

War In Gaza

its not right. Hamas have only threatend to fire rockets which dont even kill or hurt anyone because their weaponry clearly isnt has high class as the Israeli Military. i jus the war should end...no one needs to die, let the palestinians live in peace and the Israeli's should live in thier peace. Palestinians cant even go to Mosques without being harrased by the military...they just want to cross the boarder to pray in their mosques. this is all gone on for too long, i think Obama is spot on

"If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop that,"

Damn Right.

Everyone knows their isnt PEACE on this world but we all can live clear of fear.

Gaza

I do not think that Obama should send our tax dollars to Gaza to help rebuild. Our problem is, we have always tried to take care of the world and not our own.

American Patriot

What would you have the Israelis do? Tell the civillians in Gaza to jump up and down and shout "Hey! I'm a civillian! Don't kill me!"? What would make the real terrorists, Hamas, not to do the same thing? Israel has been very patient in this issue and is tired of being pushed around. Israel can not help that Hamas operatives are cowards and are unable to fight in front of women children. Hamas fires rockets from schools. Israel bombs the school to show that there is no place that Hamas can hide without receiving retaliation. Technically, the land doesn't belong to the Palestinians either. If we're going to do the "Who's land is it?" debate, then the ultimate answer would be the Canaanites. Next would be the Jews who conquered almost all of Canaan (ancient Palestine). After the Jews, there would be the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Greeks under Alexander, the Romans, the Ottoman empire, and the British who then sold the land to the Zionists (aka Jews). The Palestinians, instead of agreeing to a two-state system, listened to their fellow Arabs (the Egyptians, the Jordanians, the Syrians, etc) and attacked the Israelis the day after Israel proclaimed statehood. These mighty countries should've easily wiped out the Zionists in Israel, but they were defeated by a handful of Jews. The US should support Israel because Israel is the underdog. Yes, I know, pretty hard to imagine a country with a well equipped army being an underdog to a group of terrorists. But hey, as you said, "It is a reality." Take a look at Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and other Islamic countries. They are not very happy to have a Jewish state so close to them. Iran's president and groups like Al-qaeda, Hezzbollah, and Hamas really want to genocide the Jews/Israelis. That is something the US can not stand up for or look the other way. I do love this country. But if it can not support its allies or the stomache to go in and win wars, then the country I loved has died. That is the mindset of those in the Revolution. Remember Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty, or give me death"? This was the mindset of those who faught in Normandy. If we can't fight wars to win, then we might as well give up being a nation for this no will in its people to defend the rights their forefathers fought to secure for future descendents.
