Conservatives Pooh-Pooh National Security Team

Barack Obama announced his national security team at a press conference this afternoon, and several of his choices have raised concern among conservative bloggers. Over at RedState, a blogger questions the constitutionality of Hillary Clinton's nomination to the secretary of state position. A Weekly Standard blogger says Susan Rice as U.N. ambassador is a good choice if Obama wants the U.N. to remain "a hopelessly ineffective institution." A blogger at HotAir thinks the combination of adviser Samantha Power, who once called Clinton a "monster," and Clinton could be dangerous. Chris Cillizza explains why Obama offered Clinton the state secretary position and why Clinton accepted it. Liberal bloggers focus on Obama's commitment to withdrawing from Iraq in 16 months and praise the team of officials he has chosen.

Backlash Over Media in Mumbai

The news that an influential Muslim trust is refusing to bury the bodies of the nine terrorists involved in the three-day attacks in Mumbai is good news, according to conservative bloggers, because it "signals a continued push-back against Islamist extremism." A HotAir blogger says the best place for the bodies is a "pig sty." Other bloggers discuss the effective methods of South Asian militant groups and whether or not they act out of religion. Another sore subject among conservative bloggers is how the media may have put people in Mumbai in danger.

Bush Plays Regret Card

Bush tells ABC's Charlie Gibson in an interview to air tonight that he was "unprepared for war" and wishes "the intelligence had been different, I guess." Liberals respond to this "deeply pathetic interview" by asking: What else is new? Even when Bush "takes the blame" for bad decisions, they write, he's still misleading the public. If faulty intelligence led to the war in Iraq, why weren't German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Hans Blix, or even the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research convinced? The real fault, liberals say, was Bush's "decision to overlook all the good intelligence." Conservative Ed Morrissey writes that Bush wasn't unprepared for the war; he was unprepared for the occupation.
