Public Opinion: Spreading the Wealth and Barack Obama

Will his words come back to haunt him?

Raising taxes in a recession is disaster

I don't necessarily buy the "socialism" label, but raising taxes and restricting trade in a severe recession are the worst things you can do, and they will kill the job creation that is needed to get us out of the recession. You have to create wealth before you have anything to redistribute, as Sam Dealy quotes Teddy Roosevelt as saying. Barney Frank revealed the liberal Democratic agenda if they are unrestrained by McCain's veto pen when he said, "There are plenty of very rich people we can tax at some point down the road and recover some of this money." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1Mazjm_A5k)

What bothers me even more is Obama saying that the Earl Warren Supreme Court failed to "break free of the essential bounds placed on it by the founding fathers in the Constitution." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VctiYQplw8) To me, it sounds like he is saying that it is OK for the Supreme Court to trample the Constitution to achieve liberal ends!! Regardless of what you believe about social issues, do we really want someone with this philosophy appointing Supreme Court justices?

Wake up, people! Obama is just a more extreme version of Jimmy Carter, and the change he would bring is a change to the same policies and the same results that Carter had. The parallels are uncanny. A charismatic figure comes from nowhere to win the Democratic nomination. He promises to soak the rich, put a windfall profits tax on the oil companies, cut taxes on the middle class (he never got around to that one), slash defense spending (hear Obama promising that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE&NR=1) to pay for a dramatic increase in spending on new government programs. All of these are the same with Obama. The result was the misery index, stagflation, a military in shambles (remember the failed hostage rescue attempt?), and our stature in the world lowered, not raised. What kind of signal will it send to Russia, Iran, North Korea, and Al Quaeda if we cancel missile defense, stop development of new combat weapon systems, and slash "tens of billions of dollars" from defense spending? Is that what we should be doing in this dangerous world?

McCain represents the opposite on every one of these issues. He will strengthen the military. He will reduce our high corporate tax rate so companies and small businesses will have a 10% increase in after-tax earnings to use for growing and creating more jobs. He will open more markets for American products, which creates jobs. He will help middle class families by doubling the dependent exemption, exempting unemployment benefits from income tax, and giving people $5000 to buy health insurance. He will veto bloated, wasteful spending bills. Since Carter, these policies have been proven to generate growth, prosperity, and jobs. Vote McCain!

I have never heard such a load of paranoia and distortion in my life! He made a remark about "spreading the wealth" to a guy who would get a tax break, and who in no way was in danger of being hurt by Barack Obama's tax plan! Even the most filthy rich corporate CEO would recieve an increase of 3%. We're not talking Communism here people!

Up until a year ago or so John McCain himself said the tax cuts for the top tier should not be extended. He said it was unfair! The Republican smear machine works overtime to pull the wool over people's eyes.

Social Security and Medicare can also be construed as Socialism. where is the big outcry about that???

Redistribute the wealth, please!

Dean of DC, please do try to take your medicine.

Right on JerryEZ of Texas, Bill of NY and Capt. America of MI.

When I raised my kids as a widow, I had to work long hours and two jobs and had an autistic kid and there was no help whatsoever from the system. Now every illegal gets our affordable housing, food stamps, and free medical care which closes hospitals causing them to go bankrupt.

We have the right to jobs so we can support our families. Stop with the old saw about illegals doing jobs we won't do. Pay decent wages and plenty of US citizens will work.

That and the church crooks (and I am a Christian), frost me when they tell people how to vote, tell us that we should not have welfare for Americans who can't find jobs and these so-called ministers say that people need to go get jobs! There are no freaking jobs. Tell those ministers flying around in corporate private jets and wearing expensive designer clothing to go get real jobs and take away from them that money they use for their comfort as well as all the tax benefits they have. They are exactly the ilk of the moneychangers Jesus drove from the temple with whips. AND IF THE SHOE FITS, WEAR IT!

Spreading the wealth

Well, Bush and company have been busy spreading the wealth of America's taxpayers into corporate coffers so it is about time we got some of it back for the little guy.

There needs to be a new manufacturing base here in America. Enough of the service industries. We can't even make our own bullets and if we had to defend ourselves we would have to continue to import our ammunition from China and other Asian countries.

If you vote McCain you will deserve what you get. He is insane.

TO JOHN VAN PELT OF FL

You need to go back to school. Oh yeah, Senator Obama is working on an education package that you might benefit for.

Always out of context

If funny how republicans take Senator Obama's comments and reword them to fit their agenda. If you listen to the whole comment, you will realize that he is not talking about taking everybody's wealth and giving it to people that don't work. As has been stated over and over, anybody that makes under $250,000 will not get a tax increase but give you a tax cut. If you have a small business, you will tax credits for every employee you employ and other tax credits. Leave to the republicans to spread lies and hatred because they are losing and this is the only thing they can come up with. If anybody should every listened to what Sarah Palin said about what she did in Alaska and what she publicly stated was that from the oil deal she did she "redistribute the wealth to all Alaskans." Now this is where it has come to bite her on the ___. The more I hear about what the republicans are doing, it's pretty scary. First the girl that tried to blame a black man for cutting a "B" because she was for McCain and found out she did it to herself. Crazy! Now I hear about the two "white supremacy" guys that wanted to murder black people and then Senator Obama. Now I hear that in Virgina, they have put out flyers to tell democrats to vote on the day after the national elections, Nov 5th. And telling college students that they can't vote locally because of a dozen reasons. All the crazies are coming out. What will they think of next? Everybody needs to look at the real issues and what each candidate is going to do instead of listening to all their rhetoric. There is only one person that can bring this country back to where we used to be and to take care of this mess and to unite us to make this country a leader among all countries and that is Senator Obama. He is intelligent, he will work for us and he will bring back the secure feeling we once had.

thye dont understand

these people who want something for nothing is geting crazy

HAVE ANYBODY HEAR READING THIS EVERY GOT A JOB FROM A POOR PERSON

HELL NO

IF YOU KEEP TAKING THE MONEY FROM THE RICH WHO WILL HAVE A JOB

WAKE UP

VOTE MCAIN

President Clinton did the same thing that Obama proposes...is he a socialist? The McCain campaign is desperate and calling Obama every name in the book, yet we have not heard one single way they will be different from George W.

Spread the Wealth

ALL taxation is a means of "spreading the wealth", or burden. In Alaska they spread the wealth by giving tiny checks for oil profits to the citizens, that may appease them while there are still commercial fisherman there that just got a settlement of 70K each from the Exxon Valdez oil spill. No fishing income for 5+ years, and Exxon only gave them 70K? Great job of defending your Joe Sixpacks, Palin! The GOP has sunk to the lowest attacks I've ever seen in a campaign, and these two old nags are the worst candidates I've ever seen the GOP nominate. What happened to the GOP being "the civil party"? It seems they have devolved into the Racist Party. The outright lie of Obama being a Muslim, makes me realize how proud Joe McCarthy would be of these two "Mavericks/Racists". The shameful commie witch hunts took place over 50 yrs. ago in Hollywood, where people with names other than Smith and Jones were pursecuted because their names were different. Here we are in 2008 doing the same thing?

How far we have NOT come! Apparently "Joe Sixpack" is just an ignorant racist skinhead. How proud Republicans must feel when "Palin,The Ignorant" spews hatred and predudice causing her dim-witted followers to shout such loving comments like "Kill Him" at these hate rallies the GOP holds. If these two hate-mongers get elected, God save the world, cause he will be the only way we will survive.

Spreading the "Wealth"

What this country needs to do is eliminate taxes for people making over $250,000. What better incentive to spur people to acheive the American dream. At the same time, the slackers who make less than that will have to pick up the tab for all the services and entitlements they consume. There's no difference between a tax cut and a economic stimulus except who it goes to. We need to privatize Social Security, healthcare, and education--that way everyone will pay as they go without any redistribution of wealth.
