Blog Buzz: John McCain Brings Up the Barack Obama-Bill Ayers Connection Again, Obama Attacks McCain on the “Keating Five” Scandal, Sarah Palin Wonders About Rev, Jeremiah Wright

Posted October 6, 2008

Our daily look at stories and topics that are lighting up the Internets:

McCain's Old Attack on an Old Scandal

According to the Washington Post, top Republicans say that John McCain's campaign is preparing to launch an aggressive attack on Barack Obama's character to shift attention away from the economy. The first line of attack appears to be familiar territory for the McCain campaign—Obama's connection to Bill Ayers. The campaign has released this statement, and Sarah Palin brought up Ayers at a rally in Florida this morning. Liberal bloggers say the Republicans are trying to "distract with slime" and provide examples of McCain's ties to a "pretty motley crew," including "his own Bill Ayers," G. Gordon Liddy. Other liberal bloggers, however, question the Obama campaign's response to the accusations. Conservative bloggers want to know exactly what Obama knew about Ayers and when he knew it. Chris Cillizza analyzes the shift that has taken place since the 2004 election, when personal attacks like this almost always came from outside groups, not from the candidates themselves.

Obama's New Attack on an Old Scandal

Responding to McCain's renewed attempts to link Obama with Ayers, the Obama campaign has E-mailed supporters a link to a 13-minute documentary on McCain's involvement in the "Keating Five" savings and loan scandal of 1989-1991. Liberal bloggers say that while Obama should not make the scandal a central campaign message, it does have much more relevance to current events than the Ayers line of attack, and is, therefore, an appropriate defensive move. Conservative bloggers point out that McCain was not found guilty of violating any Senate rules and say that the attack justifies McCain's Ayers tactic. They also think that the presence of John Glenn (who was also involved in the Keating Five scandal) at a pro-Obama event is hypocritical.

Palin's New Attack on an Off-Limits Scandal

Liberal bloggers have found another reason to question Sarah Palin's judgment in a recent interview with New York Times columnist Bill Kristol. Palin told Kristol that she wondered why Obama's association with former pastor Jeremiah Wright is not discussed more because, she said, "those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country." McCain has repeatedly said that attacking on Obama on his connection to Wright is off limits, leaving bloggers to wonder how McCain will respond to Palin's comments, and whether he neglected to inform Palin about Wright or he's changed his policy and Wright is fair game now. A conservative blogger says McCain would be "committing political malpractice" if he didn't start talking about Wright.

Wake up! What is wrong with you?

OK........Here is the long and short of it.

Do you want to work a 12 hour day only to have 4 hours be used to "spread the wealth"? I don't. I want all 12 hours in my pocket, that's why I work the 12 hours so that I can get ahead, not the guy next door that doesn't put in an 8 hour day.

If that is what you want, then a vote for Obama is in your future. Frankly, I can't see voting for working more hours for someone else.

And furthermore, Both campaigns are compelling. But lets get real here they are just words. We all know that America is in the crapper right now, and until the new president gets in there, they are not going to truly know what the extent of this mess is, so empty promises are what you are being given at this point. It's all in who you believe is the right person to lead this great nation. I personally want someone that has a little experience behind them, I don't want a newby. I am not a republican, I am a Democrat who like a lot of you are tired of the Bush Administration, however McCain isn't Bush and he happens to have the most impressive resume. Obama's resume just isn't there yet. He isn't seasoned enough in my opinion. And a vote for him will only open this nation up as a target again. I believe that those who want to see America fail are only waiting in the wings to test the new President. Do you want the new kid on the block in your corner, or do you want a coach that knows what it will take to keep you on your feet?

Ask yourselves this question "Who would you want teaching your children?" Someone that only has text book knowledge or someone that has both experience and text book knowledge?

I am asking the Readers to dig deeply into their innerselves and look hard at both candidates as if you were an employer looking to hire someone into your company. Don't you see, we are the employer and we need to take responsiblity in who we place in a position to lead our Nation

Obama’s economics/jobs plan, Empowering Americans to work in productive and innovative jobs”. Where will Americans find these jobs? After he initiates corporate tax increases, what employer will be able to add new positions to their workforce when sales are down because money is short and a higher percentage of their net revenues go to pay for higher corporate taxes. So what was that plan again? It sounds so bold, so innovative,,,,, so vauge, so empty. There is no plan; it’s just a polititian’s empty promises. I also know MSNBC hasn't told you Obama's platform while running for Illinois state representative, included a tax cut. In his term in office in Illinois, he never wrote the Bill, a legislative article or spoke of it on the House floor. Empty Promises.

Conversely, tapping American resources, even though evil oil is a major aspect of McCain/Palin’s plan, between oil drilling, building new refineries and all the peripheral industries it affects, will creates hundreds of thousands of new and sustainable jobs. In addition to oil, the construction of new nuclear power plants will also create hundreds of thousands of new and sustainable jobs. Furthermore, what all the democratic energy proposals have in common, none of them provide for energy in the interim. The only option they offer between now and an efficient and affordable alternative energy source, is ungodly fuel prices and that is what drilling is for. Besides, where do you think all your plastic and resin products come from? Windmills?

Finally, if you pay any attention to history, it tells you what economic strategies have worked, which ones didn’t and more importantly why. Generally speaking, every time taxes were raised during an economic down turn, the recession became deeper and lasted longer than expected. Under the same conditions, with taxes lowered it stimulates economic growth and helps establish a longer up swing. Economic history is really dry reading but it never lies.

In conclusion, you stated; “McCain's plan frankly SUCKS.” With Obama, There is no plan; it’s just a politician’s empty promise. Besides, Socialism has only been successful at bakerupting governments, lowering workforce production efficiency and increase long term unemployment. ALL FACTS.

Cap and Trade Is Already Working

By Martin O'Malley

Ten states have already instituted cap and trade--successfully.

In September 2008, 10 northeastern states, including Maryland, launched the United States's first greenhouse gas "cap and trade system." The result? Energy conservation and development of alternative energy is being funded at historically high levels—a commitment by this country that is long overdue.
