Sarah Palin, Small-Town America, and the Democrats' Ongoing Arrogance Problem

Small towns provide real-world experience—as well as electoral victories

Start thinking like individuals

There are about 4 things the Bush Doctrine could mean. The question was a gotcha question and that's fine. The issue is nobody pushed questions of Obama like that durring the primararies or any other time. I am a white collar guy who lives in a big city, but I am from a small town. I don't think you Obamabots get that ganging up on her (and not just in editorials) is a class issue. You are telling people from small towns that there oppinion isn't as important (thus not picking Clinton), they are told that every day in a myriad of ways. That if you don't go to an ivy school you can't achieve certain things. When in fact a state school is the best that they ca n hope for their kids, with a lot of sacrafice. I never got how Obama folks believed he was going to win red states and republicans (McCain gets more dems than the other way around). Dems will always lose when they go for the most liberal candidate and refuse to put forth a centrist, I know you'all convince yourselves otherwise but white blue collar will actually switch parties, thus called Regan Democrats. Youth vote and black vote may have some stay home but almost none will vote rep. Keep in mind if a person stays home 1 vote if they vote for the other guy it's a net loss of 2. If it's 50-50 and 10 dems stay home it becomes 40-50, if they vote for the rep it becomes 40-60. Get a clue Obama folks if you do there is probably still a way to salvage this mess. Like campaign saying well those people weren't really going to vote for HRC anyway, really is that why you have her in Ohio, Florida and Pen? Is that why the polls show a shift? Is that why Obama has a public lunch with Bill? Get your head out of the sand.

Vote Issues not Emotions

Currently there is a surplus of 79 Billion dallors in Iraq, while we spend millions of dollars each month to protect "our secuirty against terriorist" we are borrowing money from China ( the same country that our jobs are moving to) in order to fight terrisium in Iraq and as a result getting deeper and deeper in debt. In return Iraq signed a contract with China and cancelled their contracts with Mobil and Exxon not to mention the 4100 lives lost in this OCCUPATION that will never END.

My concern lies with the future of our country and how we will leave it for generations to come. I am not going to vote on emotions I am voting based on the ISSUES. My issues are the economy, the shrinking middle class, education, paying off the nationanal debt.

Most importantly, time and time again it is shown how both McCain and Palin lie. What's worse they are at times not even on the same page. Palin is clearly not ready to run this country and has an extremely narrow view of the world. The Most dangerous thing we can do as a country is to elect McCain and Palin. Look at the facts, and ask yourself whether you are better Today than you were 8 years ago and whether you are secure with your future as you were 8 years ago. Isn't that why Bush got elected? So why elect McCain under the same conditions?

Ultimatly I am concerned for our childrens' future and the future of this country. That is why I am voting for Obama. Too many republican lies. Lies to keep us off the issues in order to have us focused on the fluff. That said, the democrates aren't mad as they are not doing the attacking and the negative ads.

They will never get it

Obama has no clue, the mistakes he has made proves he does not get middle America. He has never lived our lives, he has never cherished our way of life. Nominating a liberal was a mistake and Obama has been over the top radical for the last 25 years,a danger to America for sure.

Please be clear about writer's political affliation

Mr. Langer is a republican mouthpiece as the president of The Institute for Liberty. You should have made his political affliation clearer in the byline rather than an obscure footnote to just his title. I now have a poorer view of your magazine and it's quality of reporting.

Why are the Democrats so Angry and mean ??

I mean really make love not war flower children keepers of the earth PITA Greenpeace I have never seen such a group of Hateful mean spirited people Celbrities saying they Hate Sara Palin Americans who hate thier President ?? All I can say is PEACE out ! McCain/Palin 08 for the love of America time for a Change from the radical left PEACE :)

Arrogance, I think Not!!!

How can anyone who belongs to the Grand Ole Party of deceit, deception and outright lying to America have the audacity to call anyone arrogant??? These people started a war upon arrogance even ignoring and disrespecting their party elders. When Georgie blew off Jim Baker and the Baker/Hamilton Commission, that was arrogance. When Georgie cut veterans benefits after starting a war, that was arrogance. When Georgie claimed "Mission Accomplished" while soldiers were falling, that was arrogance. When McCain claims to be the candidate of change after his 20+ years in the Senate accomplishing nothing except weaseling out of the Keating Five which resulted in America bailing out the savings & loans, that was arrogance. The list of arrogance by this party of toe tapping traitors is long and distinguished up to and including the choice of Miss Giggle Britches for VP. Who's next for GOP list of losers, maybe Good Job Brownie for the state department or Gonzo for GOP chairman??? Take your pick of all these party luminaries from Congressional Page molesters to guilty pleading sex fanatics, this party has no morals or ethics but they do have plenty of arrogance!!!

Sarah Palin

I think they are enought small town People To put her and John Mc Cain in the White house.

American Idol and Palin

Wow, you should go back and read the comments about the haberdashery manager who became President: Harry Truman. I don't know if Gov. Palin will be of that stature but he was a very unlikely choice. What does make a decent President? Mark Twain didn't think Chester A. Arthur would be much more than a political hack but Arthur reformed civil service. There is this enduring American idea going back to the revolution, that common people can become great leaders. Wasn't that one of Thomas Jefferson's ideas?

Ongoing arrogance and Palen's appeal

Mike of MI: ... you did not listen carefully enough; Sarah Palin has absolutely been outside the U.S. She listed her travels during the interview aired on Thursday at 6:30.

As soon as VP candidate Palin began busting on Obama at the RNC, I breathed a sigh of relief. For those of us who see Obama as completely unqualified for POTUS, and have had to keep our opinions pretty much to ourselves, Palin is a breath of fresh air.

Another welcome change is seeing much of her record out in the open immediately after she was announced. After nearly two years of exposure to Obama, there is still much to be learned. We need to know, for example, how much he interfaced with Ayers during the 1995 - present interval. Some say it goes on to this day through one of Obama's campaign people. Obama says he is just a neighbor; however, he is a neighbor who held a reception for O in his home. There are many other questions as well. Sniff sniff. I smell old fish wrapped in a newspaper.

That Obama feels his previous political relationships are none of our business is ludicrous. If he were considering someone to run his affairs, he would do plenty of checking. And we should too. This protective mantle which the Democratic Party Leaders and most mainstream media have cloaked him in is anti-First Amendment. Yet, he balks at every step.

He feels we have no right. Arrogance, ongoing arrogance. Well put, Andrew Langer.

Palin a Modern Wonder.

After watching Palin's interview and doing a little research on my own. I find Sarah Palin unfit to run a moose tannery. She has exhibited a flare for wasting taxpayer money. She has consistently talked out of both sides of her face. She is not yet into her third year as Governor of Alaska and already she is shrouded in scandal, (Troopergate). She has billed the State of Alaska for living in her own home (per diem, to the tune of $17,000). Sold a state jet at a three quarter million dollar loss, then flies her family all over Alaska (to the tune of $44,000). Left a small town under her charge, with a huge debt, (Wasilla, Alaska 16 million dollars in debt). Asked the federal government for a 3.2 Million dollar earmark to study the genetics of the Harbor Seal. Accepted 223 Million dollars in earmarks for the State of Alaska. On a reform campaign, mind you! She has done all of this and still manages to buffalo a huge percentage of the American public into believing she is qualified to be Vice President. What I find amazing, is the number of gullible and ignorant people in America. No wonder Nigerian scams are so successful in the U.S.
