Public Opinion: The Sarah Palin Interviews—How'd She Do?

Is she ready to assume the vice presidency—or even the presidency?

Palin interviews

The response to Palin's selection as McCain's vice presidential candidate says volumes about American voters. Being mayor or Wasilla or Governor of Alaska may have consequences, but they pale by comparison with the consequences of having someone who has clearly reached her level of incompetence in the White House. That so many voters seem to believe that she (or they themselves) can walk into the most powerful office in the country without any understanding of the complexities of the job is incredibly scary. Not blinking as a response to global challenges is simply a high stakes game of chicken. I for one would like better odds.

palins interviews

ive seen used car sales men sound more beliveabley compitant, and this was a sex sells move buy the mccant compain. she knows less about political polices than her geriatric boss. she was ment to apeal to consumer driven women who seen legaly blonde to many times! cute not smart!

Sarah Palin

Unbelievable! What was John McCain thinking when he apparently prematurely picked Sarah Palin for his VP pick? I look at it this way--she's one hard cough from McCain away from being president of the United States! That is very scary! Her motto seems to be--if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit!

Bad Choice McCain

I am a democrat and will be voting for Obama, however, I like and always have liked John McCain. I felt comfortable knowing that if Obama lost, I could stand having McCain as president, much more so than a true social conservative like Hucabee. However, we all know the job of President quickly ages those lucky enough to hold the title. We have all seen evidence of this in photos of the them on inauguration day and of those the day they leave office. So therefore I don't think it is unreasonable to assume the possibility that one day Sara Palin, as Vice President, might have to assume the office of President as dictated by our constitution. Sara Palin seems to be a fine Governor of Alaska and a fine mother and spouse, but if she can't bare to face reporters or answer tough questions from Katie Couric how in the world can she be VP or god forbid one day being President?!! I am tired of republicans thinking that dems and the media are being too hard on her. Are asking questions about foreign policy or our economy sexist? She should be able to answer these questions and she should not sound like a bumbling idiot trying to do so. The American people want to know what she would do, what she knows, and what kind of VP or President she would be? Whose idea that having a "average hockey mom" running our country was a great thing. I don't want "average" people running this country. We as Americans need to know what this women believes. This is our right as citizens and I think that choosing her as his running mate was a terrible mistake for John McCain. Don't you know he is kicking himself now by not choosing the economy king himself--Mitt Romney. Now I could stomach having those two on a ticket!

Palin

I had been leaning toward McCain, but Palin's utter lack of familiarity with...anything...make it obvious that she is perhaps the poorest VP choice in modern times (perhaps ever). Hence, I've joined the other millions in switching from McCain to Obama.

And 'TX' - Wasn't the Palin camp was demanding to keep her children out of the fray? Yet you are using Palin's impregnated child as an example of how Palin is a good VP? Seriously, you're trying to have it both ways. And, no, Palin doesn't have a modicum of the experience or intelligence as does Obama.

In any case, the polls are showing Obama's now up by 5-10 points. The VP debates are this week. If Palin comes out strong and as though she knows what's going on, I may reconsider. But I really don't see that happening after the Couric interview.

VP Choice

While I think it is an excellent choice (a woman) for Vice President, I just don't think Palin is even remotely qualified. I watched two interviews and was apalled at what she was saying (psycho-babble). I thought that perhaps I didn't hear it correctly but I had my wife listen also. I thought you can't be serious! She is an absolute joke. Alaska is so different from the rest of the USA, it's hard to believe we're in the same country. I think a woman for President or Vice President is an excellent choice, just don't give us some unqualified individual with little to no experience and expect us to think she is automatically qualified and has foreign experience. Sara Palin - you can't be serious! McCain has made the biggest mistake of his political career.

sarah palin

Sarah Palin seemed to JUMP at the chance to be chosen McCains vice president without even a thought to the time and energy that would be taken from her family and brand new special needs child. She strikes me as thinking only of herself and loving the limelight and attention she is getting.I am all for a woman in the whitehouse but,it is clear to me she is not qualified to be vice pres.It sacres me to think she could become our president. When interviewed it was PAINFULLY obvious she is not prepared for the office.I would have had more respect for her if when asked about the Bush doctrine she just said "I dont know what it is"than dance around the question and pretend she knew the answer!"She looked like she was reading a script and when asked a question that wasnt on it she tried to come up with any answer even if it didnt make sense! She looked angry when cornered by an unexpected question in my opinion. That is the last thing I want in the whitehouse a person with an anger problem(like McCain!)I want someone who is reasonable and can talk things out on the world stage not someone who doesnt talk and just wants to ACT!She talks like McCain WIN WIN WIN no matter what!I personally dont think it is considered a WEAKNESS to talk things out and WINNING is not that important if it is at the expense of others.I will not be voting the McCain ticket.

For the OBAMA fans...

Why on earth are you criticizing Palin, the VP nominee, on her experience when you are voting for a Presidential nominee, Obama, with less experience than Palin? I really think it's funny when the divorced, single black female, in the above comment says that she can't relate to Palin, how can you not if you're a mother?? You of all people should respect the fact that her daughter, Bristol, is keeping the baby that she is pregnant with and is going to raise it with the child's father. As for the comment that McCain is unaware....that's the stupidest comment that anyone could make! He has actual experience in defending our country, what does Obama have? Change, right, that's comical! If there's any change this country needs, it's for people like you and the other Democrats to wake up and make sound decisions that would benefit everyone in the country. I think that having an education beyond high school would be helpful in choosing a Presidential candidate that will ultimately affect our economy, you must understand the economy to make these choices between the candidates. If you did understand it, then you would clearly see that the best choice is JOHN MCCAIN!

I am 25, a mother of 2, I am a teacher, I have a MBA, that's the Republican way....be responsible for yourself...for your own destiny....stop looking for handouts!

palin what a joke

I think the Republicans just insulted every intelligent person by having such an ill qualified person run for office. She is not qualified to be my assistant much less VP.

TIME FOR A REALITY CHECK

As I write this, I wonder "what kind of fools do they (the Republican Party) think we are"? For the last 7 1/2 years we have suffered under the guidance of our present President. We have become involved in issues that did not warrant our presence. We have subjected ourselves to become dependent on countries that do not have our best interest at heart. WHY? So that when President Bush leaves office, he will have more money for him and his family to relax with. But how has this affected us?? We have a higher level of unemployment, and for those of us who are employed, we worry about GAS to get to work. Our sons and daughter are giving their lives in a war that is unfounded, AND please note that when they return to our country, they are not given the psychological treatment that they deserve. Wounded soldiers are returning home to find out that since they "can no longer fulfill the terms of their enlistment contract", that they are now INDEBTED TO THE GOVERNMENT and worse...some return needing medical care that they do not receive. WAKE UP AMERICA............why would you want to even consider electing someone who DWELLS on more of the same politics. Now is the time to do the right thing.....VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! It is time for a change, and your vote can make the difference. If you decide NOT to vote, then you should realize that YOU CHOSE NOT TO HAVE A VOICE....
