Blog Buzz: Hillary Clinton's Convention Speech, John McCain's Latest Ad, Barack Obama's Convention Stage
Hillary's speech gets mixed reviews, as does the stage set-up for Obama's acceptance speech
Our daily look at stories and topics that are lighting up the Internets:
Did Hillary Hit a Home Run?
Hillary Clinton's speech last night at the Democratic National Convention is getting mixed reviews among bloggers. Some liberal (and conservative) bloggers applaud her message of Democratic unity and her praise of Barack Obama. One liberal calls it "the speech of a lifetime." Other bloggers say she only did the minimum (Chris Cillizza, however, thinks she did all she could). Other criticisms are that she failed to convince her delegates (who one conservative blogger calls "childish") that they should vote for Obama, and that her reservations about Obama were obvious in the speech. (Did her body language give her away?) At TPM, the buzz is that Hillary may have been trying to "preserve goodwill within the party" if Obama loses and she ends up running for president in 2012.
McCain Ad Is a "Tiny" Bit False
The McCain campaign has released a new ad attacking Obama's foreign policy. The ad claims that Obama has said Iran is a "tiny country" that "doesn't pose a serious threat." Liberal bloggers are pointing out that the quote is taken out of context and is a "dishonest representation of Obama's words." Conservatives think McCain should continue attacking Obama on this theme. The ad features a new tag line and coincides with today's security theme at the Democratic National Convention. Politico's Ben Smith has the Obama campaign's response.
Obama Wants to Be President and a Greek God
Conservatives are having a field day with the news that Barack Obama will deliver his acceptance speech Thursday night on a stage that looks like a miniature Greek temple. Bloggers are mocking what they think are over-the-top theatrics that are par for the course for someone who already has a presidential seal and a big ego. Ann Althouse wonders if Obama will look like a god or a president, and an ABC News blogger thinks the speech will give Republicans "new ammo." A National Review blogger says the stage will be more of a tragedy than a temple. ThinkProgress points to conservatives who have spoken before Greek columns in the past.

John McCain was in the KKK
John McCain was a card carrying member the white radical group for one summer when he was 17. He took part in an anti-civil rights march in Birmingham, Alabama in June of 1953 (see photo below). A family Christmas card showing a young, smiling John in his uncles grand wizard hat has also circulated in recent months.
What else isnt John McCain telling us?

McCain's Eskimo Pie Story
Will Eskimo Pie® gal save McCain campaign? The country? The world?
The pickings were slim for places the GOP could hunt up more friends. As the wonder boy strategists in the GOP agonized over the perfect Vice Presidential choice, the determined that women were the only choice. How could they bring women into the McCain camp?
One recent hot afternoon Sen. John McCain, upon hearing the distorted music from a typically poor speaker system on a passing ice cream truck, sent a campaign worker to get ice cream for the team. Someone joked that like McCain, the speaker should have been retired long ago and all had a good laugh.
The Senator said. “I have not had ice cream from a street vendor since childhood. (The first one.) The trusty aid, upon learning that the ice cream man only had Eskimo Pies®, bought up every last one and returned to the office.
Since 1921 the brand of ice cream has been a vanilla inside coated with a thin chocolate. Little did the inventor know that Eskimo Pie® would be responsible for the selection of a Vice-Presidential running mate in 2008. Here is how it happened: My unreliable source tells me that Senator McCain declared that nothing beats Eskimo Pie® in time of stress. By the way, asked McCain, who is that women? You know. The Governor of Alaska? Get her on the phone for me. The rest is history.

I am a DEM Boomer and proud of it
I am a Democrat and I wanted Hillary to win. Primarily, Michael speaks the truth. Mr. Moore is also correct in Mr. McCain being a "R" and the country can't survive another 4 years of "R". I would also rather vote for Mickey Mouse. I have been an avid fan of Michael’s for years but I just do not see Obama being capable of getting this country back on its feet after the “R’s ” have not just given it a black eye but kicked its butt. You said it all on Oprah during the Sicko segment, The Country must think WE and not ME to all issues not just medical issues for resolutions.
It is not a question of Black vs. White, to me a boomer and proud of it, it is man vs. woman with major experience. If both were women, factoring in Hillary’s experience, I would without question vote Hillary, same being said if they were both African Americans. I would have also gladly voted Obama 8 years down the road after Hillary had run for 2 terms with Obama on the ticket. I do not see him as black or white I see him as man.
In my eyes, man in general is a screw up. Man has written the bible and placed his interpretation of what GOD meant and wanted. Jesus was a liberal, amen. Man, is the only animal that kills not to survive but for greed. Man thrives on violence; blame it on testosterone or the Basanova. My point being a woman president would be more prone nurturing and keeping her country out of war and .
I still say the boomers had it right, if you don't like it: protest. This is the only way that the country is going to represent the people instead of big business, legalized drug lords like health insurance, medication, and prescription drugs.
Want to get rid of the debt, legalize drugs and make people pay taxes for the drugs like cigarettes. That would definatel be a nice chuck of change.
Michael, you do tell it like it is BUT answer me this. Overall, if Hillary and Obama were both African Americans or both women or both men, bottom line-Hillary still trumps Obama with experience, She is also in the unique situation of being the wife the President who aside from his marriage flaws did an excellent job of running this country for 8 years.
Personally, I am not married to the man and could care less about who he is in bed with, if I were married to him I would be, primarily because of STD's and who says Swing town didn’t exist. Which begs the question, are the republicans supposedly loyal, faithful and true above the surface but perhaps a little ED (and I don't refer to education), which seems to keep them so monogamous. I was annoyed with Hillary about sticking with her man but that is her business, not mine, yours, or the country's.
Please do not confuse monogamy to lying to a country to get them into war, telling people that everything is fine while the entire country is starving and daily turning out more and more homeless while jobs are being outsourced and putting duct tape on the news media (with the exception of a few) as to what is actually happening. WAKE UP.
Men seem to have a natural tendency to want war, where as woman don't. Perhaps testosarone attributes to the male’s constant need for greed and pregnancy and child bearing attributes to a woman not wanting to have their offspring slaughtered or do the slaughtering. Look at history and you will see many white men Presidents seem to think war makes money and that is what they want however not in the country's coffers but in the greedy pockets that can never seemed to be satisfied.
President Clinton ran the country well for 8 years and got it out of debt. You can't buy some things, Michel Moore can't be bought, and although Obama seems to have money falling from heaven and Hillary is struggling to try to stay afloat from debt what this implies to me is the country is so desperate for a solution we are not seeing clearly.
Obama has many people with MEGA Bucks backing him, why is this? I never doubted he should run in eight years, I do have serious doubts as to his winning this election. By the way, in all due respect, his wife is gorgeous as are his children but children should be seen and not heard, Talk about a diva in the making, lord have mercy.
