Public Opinion: Michelle Obama's Democratic National Convention Speech
Reader Comments
Michelle is HAte-Filled and Confused
Personally I wouldn't want her spreading the Anti-American, Pro-Racism, Obama adoration that she has been spewing. After all she thinks that we are "just plain mean". Why do you people support a woman who hates you? I'll never understand that. Do you guys really hate yourselves that much???
Sarah Palin for VP did not sway the women's vote
As an educated career/family oriented woman I have not in the least bit been swayed to the Republican Party with McCain announcing Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate. If anything with her lack of political experience is a deterrent for undecided voters to have any faith that she would be able to represent this nation at such a high-level of political power. McCain's and Palin's speech today was very unimpressive and lacked substance pertaining to the current economic strife within the U.S. and the massive issues pertaining to Foreign policies, and Energy Issues. After researching information about her as a woman I am appalled that Palin was what seems to be chosen simply because she was a woman and because of a few other issues at an attempt to sway woman voters and more Christian voters. There were many more highly qualified Republican candidates that have earned the right to have been chosen for such a responsible position. All this has done is turn voters from the Republican Party and be ashamed that in this day and age a woman was chosen based upon her looks and not her experience. The women's movement has just been set back again which is a shame. Hillary Clinton, Jennifer Granholm, Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Sandra Day O'Connor are a step forward for women and have proven their leadership skills and earned their place in history. Palin is at the infant stages of becoming a successful high-powered political figure. When her son serves in a combat zone in Iraq or Afghanistan than she can tell me what it feels like to have a son in the military. When she gives up her career to raise her five children, especially one with Down Syndrome than she can tell me what it is like to be a mother whose family comes first. As a career woman in order to climb the ladder of success there are consequences and one of them is the sacrifice your family has to make for your success. Michelle Obama's speech was very impressive and was more substantial in meaning than anything Palin had attempted to portray to the American people. Palin is not a safe choice for such a high ranking political position in America at this point in her career. Maybe in the future when she gains additional political experience, faces really tough issues, makes very critical decisions within our society and with foreign affairs, respects woman's rights and especially the right to choose, she will be in a better position to be in a political race of this highly important nature.
i think Michelle is probably a loving compassionate woman who really cares about people. I saw a woman, beneath the text of the speech, who really loves her husband. I saw her big heart. And I saw her as a bit nervous also
I don't think there should be Beef in a wifes speech necessarily, she's not a politician. Its her job to talk about what she knows, her life and her man so we can know both a bit better.
I found her sincere and I think I am a good judge of people usually. I like Bill Clinton's speech alot, but I thought underneath pretty deeply he's not that enthused with Obama (understandably when the alternative was his WIFE and a trip for himself back to the whitehouse)...tho I do see he prefers him certainly to McCain and thinks he'd be a more than adequate president. But there was a deep down lack of passion for Obama in Bill C's speech. I thought Hillary did a better job...more passion, and it seemed more emotionally honest...I think she believed what she was saying (i am not otherwise a fan of her normally)
I think Michelle obama spoke her truth, at least part of it also
Obama was pushed to write his autobiography when he was around thrity, and I read it. THis is Way before he thought to run for president. He wrote it himself. I read it then. He is a self aware, self-critical, normal, real person...he is NOT a snob, not empty. I am able to vote for him because I read his book and he was a pretty aware and thoughtful human being even at that young age. Nothing I see now contradicts who he seemed to be then.
As Gore said, Lincoln had exact same experience in the world prior to the presidency as Obama does now. Lincoln was a great president (I am not saying Obama is Lincoln but he does share some of the qualities) because of his personal qualities...inspirational leader and orator, strong integrity and convictions, intelligent, thoughtful and self aware and introspective (Lincolns letters are facinating)...read obamas first book I saw he was a person like this (except I couldn't tell the orator or leadership parts yet) in his autobiography
I think he is thoughtful has good judgment and ability to not be in denial when he needs advice and to find the best people to advise him if needed. I would trust him to do that.
I can see who he is. You should read his book. Gore is right as is Michelle, he's a great guy.
Michelle Obama's Speech
I enjoyed her speech. I think that this was a moment in history for all african american women. To see another african american woman even be able to stand on behalf of her afican american husband and speak to the nation is simply breathe taking. Nothing that anyone can say could ever take that feeling away that afircan american women and men felt as she poured into us all her dreams hopes and aspirations for this country. I am sure that someone will critique her speech, but this would not be america if not one person did not have something negative or ignorant to say. Instead of people embracing her for the intelligent african american woman that she is, they would rather pick apart her facial expressions during Sen. Clinton's speech. Embrace her for her wisdom and intellect because as we all know one man does not stop the show. Don't knock her for doing something that hasn't been done that you could have done with a little hard work just as she has done.I feel so proud to be an african american. OBAMA for President!!!
Michelle Obama Speech
I did watch her speech, but I watched her and her reaction to Hillary speech. She almost had my vote and trust. But, when I seen her face as she sat and listen to Sen. Clinton speech. She lost me. She needs to learn that people are looking at her every move. How she sit, stand and her expressions. She looked like the Sentor was taking something from her. I laughed, I thought what she did was funny. But, voters are watching too. We all have it hard, but as Americans we have it easier than most around the world. So, how hard is it for us in the U.S.A.? Not, that her up bringing is to be looked down on. Child today in the U.S. are worst off than she or I have ever seen. So, did she struggle or are the child that don't have dads or moms less in their struggles.
Want to actually know what's true??
If you really want the non-partisan truth check out either one or both of these two sites:
politifact.com
snopes.com
Those of you that claim you know the truth... check it out and see if you really do. The site lists all its sources.
I'm sure though that the ones that find their "truth" was wrong will find ways to say these sites are bogus. They are not bogus and they are non-partisan.
Michelle Obama speech
I beleive she did an excellent job, the purpose was to show a softer side. SUCEEDED Mrs. Obama!!! It was heart felt and if you didnt feel it you are not human or have not struggled like most black people do. It takes one to know one, I realize the hard struggle it is I have 6 kids between me and my fiance' and we get by but it is always a struggle. Only someone who knows what that means is able to feel the pain of balck, white, hispanic, chinese, korean or whoever knows a struggle. I am there everyday in life.
Mrs Obama's speach
I watched and listened to Mrs.O and found her story rather similar to most middle class Americans. I am quite a bit older than her, but my father worked for GE when i was growing up and watched him do whatever necessary for the family. Every year i remember he had a garden for us.
Outside of the similarity i chose to marry early and forgo my education which i later caught up with. I have been a Democrat since JFK,protested in the 60's for Civil Rights and mainly for the terrible over shadow by all Americans for the plight of the Native American People. I personally think more disgrace has been done to them than any other group.
I lived through the peace and love generation so the Hope and Change is quite similar. I have been a Clinton supporter for both Bill and Hillary. My vote is personal and is for a person and their beliefs and not for a party. Barack is a great speaker but i dont think he has it all together yet, sorry.
Overproduced and light on substance
Nothing particularly offensive about Michelle's speech - predictable would be the word that immediately comes to mind. But like everything that's preceded this speech I keep thinking "Where's the Beef?" As much as Obama would like everyone to believe he's cornered the market on the whole "It's Time For a Change" campaign strategy, this isn't an approach that's any different from any other politician that's ever run for office. They ALL promise change. But in Obama's case, there's a lack of substance in both his resume and promises that causes me concern. While I'm not particularly thrilled with McCain as the alternative, I can't in good conscience choose Obama as our next President.
Michelle Obama speech feedback
I did listen to the speech. If I were to believe what she said was true and as good for the nation as it sounded, I would without question vote for Obama. However, words should not just be words. They must be preceeded and proceeded by action. When I look back at fact, I think of my future as well as the future of my children and grandchildren. It was once said that America is heading in the direction of two classes of people. The rich and the poor. Today, with Congress sitting on their hands (Obama, Clinton, McCain included.) America is sending our wealth outside of this country to support our rich by allowing them to become wealthy importing everything from Oil to rubber bands. How can Michelle tell us that her husband cares about America, when he falls into this catagory. We are fighting a loosing war, all nations no longer fear us, but hate us. Whenever a friend of mine say's that he or she is leaving the country for business or recreational purposes, I remind them that the first word they must lear is 'EH' Yes be a proud Canadian. Don't admit to being an American unless they don't fear for their lives.
No Michelle, words are not stonger than proven actions !!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!
