Blog Buzz: The Clintons and Barack Obama Clash at the Convention; McCain's Latest Anti-Obama Ads, and Joe Biden's Baggage

Bill Clinton's convention speech causes tension, and an ad turns Hillary supporters against Obama

Our daily look at stories and topics that are lighting up the Internets:

Clinton and Obama: Drama, Drama, Drama in Denver

Reports of tension between the Obama and Clinton camps, such as this recent Politico story, have bloggers questioning the unity of the Democratic Party. One source of the tension is that Barack Obama has told Bill Clinton he must speak about foreign policy at the Democratic Convention, a disappointment to Clinton as he wanted to speak about domestic issues. The two sides have issued a statement that there is no discord between them, but bloggers aren't convinced. One conservative blogger thinks forcing Bill to speak on foreign policy is a mistake. At The New Republic, a former Hillary Clinton spokesperson has advice on how to heal the rift. Chris Cillizza at The Fix says Obama has to try to "heal the wounds of the primary," during which Obama bad-mouthed Bill Clinton's administration, according to Clinton.

Obama Gets Slammed in Latest Ads

The McCain campaign has released a new ad featuring a former Hillary Clinton delegate talking about her decision to support John McCain. Liberals say it's a "stunt, a trick," but conservatives approve. Likewise for a new ad from a black Republican PAC that attacks Barack Obama for his position on so-called born-alive abortions. The Republican National Committee has also released an ad featuring Hillary Clinton's critique of Obama during the primary. According to Ben Smith at Politico, Clinton does not approve of the message and is urging Democrats to support Obama, which one blogger thinks is a great sound bite to put in a future Obama ad. On the Obama front, they have released a negative ad with a lighter tone that attacks McCain's lack of knowledge about the economy.

Will Joseph "Helmet Hair" Biden Be a Good Veep?

In the wake of Barack Obama's vice president announcement, bloggers are busy analyzing his choice of Sen. Joe Biden. Conservative and liberal bloggers are focusing on his political baggage, such as his ties to the Rezko corruption scandal and his son's ties to a credit company that Biden defended in the Senate, and his political record. One blogger wonders why everyone is overlooking Biden's signature accomplishment, the Violence Against Women Act. Another important topic up for discussion is the senator's "helmet hair".

Obama Campaign Tries to Shut Down Chicago Radio Show

August 28, 2008

By Warner Todd Huston

Quote:

Members of Barack Obama’s campaign HQ in Chicago tried to shut down a local radio show on the City’s most powerful radio signal, WGN 720, because they didn’t like a conservative guest that was on going on the air to discuss Senator Barack Obama’s ties to local terrorist William Ayers. This is a shocking attempt at stifling political free speech and a bald attempt to quash debate by the office of the Democratic Party’s nominee

Cut--------------

So, for the Obama campaign to act as if this particular show is an affront to reasoned debate is an outrageous charge. Just as outrageous is the Obama campaign’s obvious desire to destroy free political speech. It makes one quake to wonder what sort of oppressive climate an Obama presidency would impose on the country?

Hey Obama, when was the last time your read our Constitution which prohibits your attempt to silence political speech?

Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I can’t believe that so many hard working Americans would fall for Obama, who in fact is a domestic enemy of our constitutionally limited system of government!

JWK

If we can make 51 percent of America’s population dependent upon a federal government check, we can then bribe them for their vote, keep ourselves in power and keep the remaining portion of America’s population enslaved to pay the bills ____ our Marxist Democrat Party’s game plan, a plan to establish a federal plantation.

Clinton/Obama Rift

Somewhere at some time the Clintons must realize they are no longer in the White House and the time they spent there wasn't exactly exemplary. Between the unimpeeded rise of world terrorism, Hillary's health care plan and meddling in America's affairs, and Bill's uncontrollable urges, America was left with only the wizardry of Robert Rubin's budgetary magic as a legacy of the Clinton years. Camelot it was not. Now that the people have spoken with their votes it should become self-evident that America is not overwhelmingly supportive of a return engagement of the Clinton years by virtue of Hillary's horrors of inept plans and policies. America must always remember she admittedly did not read the bill allowing the Iraq Invasion yet voted yea and then said she regretted her vote. Somewhere along the line America must demand accountability for this war and those involved with permitting the actions. Hillary has barely enough credibility to address a convention much less criticize someone who did read the bill authorizing the Iraq Invasion and voted against war. On this issue Obama clearly holds the trump card!!!
