Cokie Roberts' comment

I use to have a modicum of respect for Cokie Roberts. It's all gone now. The Main Stream Media has officially "gone to hell in a handbasket!"

COOKIE GET OVER IT

This is the divisive politics that Obama is trying to fight in our beloved country. It is childish and irresponsible to say that Obama should not go to Hawaii so where did you want him to go for a vacation? The answer is obvious. Cookie like all bigoted people like her are determined to find fault in Obama. If he took orange juice for breakfast Cookie would probably go bananas because that would not be reflecting American values. Hawaii according to information is part of American State like any other American State. You are the type who say that you cannot deal with Muslim sounding name, yet you embrace oil from the Middle East and even fight for the Middle Eastern people to have democracy. You cannot trust a name such as Hussein even if that name has nothing to do with Al Queda yet you can stand up for Americans fighting in Iraq. Hypocrisy of the first order. You do not seem to have ideology on which you base your argument. Any argument goes so long as it can advance your myopic feelings about an individual you do not approve of. Sorry dear, the world has moved on and you need to get over your bigoted and the superiority complex attitude. We are in the 21st century and we are moving on--- Let Obama vacation where he wants, it is called freedom of choice, part of something called "Bills of Rights" Okay Cookie?

Out of Touch

Could this woman be any more out of touch with reality? To call Hawaii exotic and foreign makes me wonder if she were fully present at that discussion.

The fact that much of the mainstream media ignored her says either that she's so well connected by birth and marriage to the media elite they're afraid to criticize her or that she's so irrelevant, like some bar patron grousing at the bartender, that why bother?

Also, "I know his grandmother lives there, but..." is even more patronizing. He lived with her for many years - in Hawaii while attending school - and she cannot now travel. Does Ms. Roberts think he should refuse to visit the only remaining member of his previous generation's family because to one uninformed ABC talk show guest it looks bad?

How sad that Ms. Roberts begrudges Senator Obama time with his extended family.

Go away Cokie!!

I think Cokie is trapped in her segregationist Louisiana childhood. It tends to raise its ugly head more as she ages. I hope Obama did not snatch her purse 30-years ago, because she has an obvious dislike for anything he does. It is sad in a way that so many in her generation fear Obama's accomplishments and future possibilities. I think it is what America is supposed to be about. To be honest, "This Week with GS" and his gang are beginning to sound more and more like Fox News. what happened dialogue without disdain?

Roberts' Hawaii as foreign is stupid on so many levels. Why on earth would Obama want to visit his Granny and his home state? Maybe Obama should have gone to Branson, Mo. for the Glenn Campbell Theatre. That would have been "white" enough. This woman owes Hawaii an apology. Bar her from ever coming to Hawaii. I only watched this week because Meet the Press had the Olympics. I will watch cartoons before I watch This Week again.

Air head

Obama was born in Hawaii and graduated from high school in Honolulu. So he's going HOME on vacation, you simpleton.

Come on Cokie

The placed where the most admittedly conservative and machismo shows about COPS and PIs ever set to celluloid is FOREIGN?

Hawaii....

The place where Steve McGarrett squalled into our living rooms each week for nearly 10 years in his 1969 Mercury Parklane 4-door Brougham is FOREIGN?

The place where Dog the Bounty Hunter Chapman furtively sneaks through the Dark Oahu night to prevent criminals from killing people in their beds is FOREIGN?

The place where some 2.6 million Americans have vacationed (some of whom from truly alien destinations such as UTAH and IDAHO) is FOREIGN?

Yeah, next time he should stay with Ms. Roberts within the Beltway instead...now there's a place of arabesque intrigue and foreign deception!

Yeah,

That's why I quit watching the Stephanopoulous over the hill hour with Sam Donaldson and the greasily unctuous George Will months ago.

Cokie Embarassed Herself

There's that famous saying, "It's one thing to be thought a fool, it's another to speak and prove it." Poor Cokie Roberts has shown herself to be an ignorant fool. Hawaii will proudly celebrate 50 years of statehood next year. We are Americans - don't hate us because we live in this beautiful place. We have the same problems (maybe even more) as our "mainland" fellow Americans. We're concerned about gas prices, terrorism, affordable housing, crime, drugs, inflation, immigration, the value of the dollar and the safety of our troops in Iraq and Afganistan. We look forward to the Presidential election in hopes that the next U.S. president will lead us into better governence of our natural resources, bring our soldiers safely home while still keeping the world a balanced place and put our economy back on track. We work hard and work long hours to be able to live in this place that we love. I respect and admire Barack Obama for coming home to visit his 85-year-old grandmother - he has the right values. Cokie has shown herself to be an ignorant idiot. Why does ABC let such an uneducated person on air? That is utterly irresponsible.

disappointed

I am so sorry to hear such comments from Cokie Roberts, a woman I have always respected.

I live on Kaua'i, a beautiful island in a beautiful state. I will not apologize for this. And yes, I am a US citizen and pay taxes.

Senator Obama should ignore his grandmother because she happens to live in a beautiful place? McCain has a ranch in Sedona, AZ, another tourist mecca. Where do you think he should go on vacation--Los Angeles?
