Public Opinion: Were Wesley Clark's Criticisms of John McCain Out of Line?

Gen. Clark's statement
Even so, serving in the Armed Forces is not a qualification for Commander and Chief, it does show loyality to one's country. The fact that John McCain was a POW, was tortured, even given the oppurtunity to sell out, and yet stayed the course. Shows the type of loyality and love he has for country and fellow Service Men and Women. The fact that he could have foregone his POW status, in and of its self, shows the will he has to serve this great Country! McCain may not have given orders to drop bombs or make command discisions, but he refused to put himself first or above anyone else reguardless of statue. Mr. McCain if you will base your decisions on that type of character you'll have my vote.
Get a Grip Folk
I feel sorry for most of these people who can not see that Gen. Clark was speaking on a specific topic. I like how the mainstream media and most of the people who do not support Barack Obama find fault with only the clip that is aired on the news. People should learn to be more complex and read someone's full statement in context before rushing to judgment. It seems that people are incapable of doing that. IF some of you would have done that you would have read the part where Gen. Clark said that John McCain's service made him a hero to millions or that it showed that he was a courageous person whose service he honored. I mean get a life and stop buying into the sound bite culture we live in. At some point people have to stop being sheep and take some personal responsibility for getting all the information. That is the kind of thing that that is undermining our conutry.
Gen Clark's big saleout
As a Vet, I would be proud to have an individual like John McCain as my Commander. At one time I would have said the same about Gen Clark but not any more. Looks to me like Gen Clark would sell out anyone around him or say anything to get a job or position he wants. This is not the type individual that I ever want to work for or to support for any position.
John McCain
Keep up the good work. You are saying what Ihave been thinking
Clark
Hey clark move to China,I feel sorry for you. When Kerry was running his record was all of that, and a cup of coffee. Now you slam Mc Cain..The people can see right through you........
Complete Lack of Perspective
Who knew McCain was such a delicate flower as to take umbrage at such an inconsequential comment. His outrage is especially ironic given he is the candidate of the party whose NATIONAL CONVENTION featured mass hurlings of purple heart band-aids in mockery of John Kerry's injuries sustained during his service to this country.
If the Democratic Delegates in Denver begin hurling pink POW rags at the stage en masse, McCain will have a legitimate claim that his service has been besmirched - Until then whimpering and acting deeply wounded and offended by every perceived slight, simply makes him look weak and unpresidential.
General Clark
General Edwin Burba, Jr., March 20, 1992
"Clark exhibits the best balance of professional ethics of any officer I know. Particularly noteworthy is his demonstrated selfless dedication to his men, his unit, and the Army. He exhibits absolute integrity of word, deed... he establishes and observes scrupulous ethical and moral standards."
-From the Award of the Silver Star, as presented to Capt. Clark after he was wounded in battle in Vietnam, February 26, 1970
"Major Clark is one of the most outstanding officers of his grade in the U.S. Army...an officer of impeccable character with a rare blend of personal qualities and professional attributes which uniquely qualify him as a soldier-scholar. While he has the intellectual grasp of world affairs attained only by the top scholars in the field, he projects soldierly qualities of strength, character, leadership, and above all an unyielding sense of personal responsibility. It is this sense of responsibility which clearly sets him apart from his contemporaries. [He] has the intellectual, moral and physical stamina, coupled with an unrelenting quest for excellence, which insures the completion of every task to near perfection. Major Clark's earnestness, sincerity of purpose and absolute dedication convey a moral force in his work which gives him a significant voice in this headquarters..."
Gen Clark's comments about John McCain
As a U.S. Army veteran, I strongly believe Welsey Clark is a PENCIL PUSHING IDIOT for making the comments he did about John McCain. Just what was he doing while McCain was fighting in Viet Nahm anyhow? How much danger was he in? Was he just one of those A. K.'s who wormed his way up the ranks?
Clark is in no position to talk about any P.O.W. and the experiences and torture they endured!
Knowing what I know about Clark now, if we were both in the service at the same time, I would NEVER salute him no matter what the consequences. I'll just bet, Clark was SOME 2nd Lieutenant, most NCOs talked about behind his back.
By the way, these comments are no more abusive than those imposed by Clark on McCain...
