It seems as if U.S. News is intent on joining the rest of the so-called maintstream media in promoting or giving credence to all the left wing views of the world, and climate change, espoused by such competitors as TIME, Newsweek, the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, etc.--all of which were respected publications with at least a modicum of "balance" in their publications when I worked as a newspaper reporter in the late 40s and early 50s. We who believed in moderation in politics with a conservative bent, used to be able to count on U.S. News for balance, fairness, integrity and ethics, especially in the days of David Lawrence. Those qualities have been missing in large part from many of the aforementioned "maintstream media" for some time now. U.S. News seems to be leaning in that direction in much of your coverage of events and pundit commentary. And that is sad, perhaps accounting partially for the continued circulation loss of many of the media whose accuracy, balance and fairness, along with integrity and ethical contact, is essential for the survival of a viable republic dependent on an informed electorate.

It's been below average for 6 months running and 20 degrees below average for over a month. Been going to Florida for over twenty years, and guess what? The boat sits exactly at the same level it did then. Haven't touch the lift.

Relocation needed

Too much attention is being given to global warming and how to slow it. With the lag-time involved, even if man's efforts can slow or turn around the effects, attention should be given to moving cities above the projected flood level and providing mass shelters in which groups of people can exist during the height of it. This might involve building self-sufficient biodomes or something similar. All that has been discussed so far are small, ineffective short-fall attempts to stop or slow the global warming. Noone has addressed saving the people - us.

Of course the rate of melting is increasing....it's called THERMODYNAMICS. The study of which shows us that the melting of a block of ice is an expontential curve. The more ice is melted, the faster the rest of the ice will melt. Too bad environmental journalists aren't required to take general physics, they would see through this b.s.

Also, don't put too much faith in computer models. Computer models only make it easier and quicker to do extreme amounts of iterations in a short time. They however, do need to be programmed and do not take into account a lot of varying effects.

You are comparing weather and climate. Yes, the weather in Yakutia is experiencing some extreme cold snaps this year. No that does not prove that the *climate* is not changing.

Let me put it simply for you. If a player scores three goals in one sports match, beating his all time high of two goals, that does not really address his appauling seasonal average because he scored 0 goals in all the other matches...

Climate change is about long term global trends, not yesterday's temperature in one city.

And if the reporter asked them, they would admit that temperatures this summer were way below average. Weather changes. Bureaucratic reports designed to get more government money to do more studies don't. It is called organizational dynamics....do what's necessary to score some bucks from the scaredycats in Washington. Whatever happened to journalism? I guess we have to go to Pravda to learn that Siberia is breaking cold records.
