Since then the Earth has been gradually warming, but it took MILLIONS of years to get to where we are today!

Barack Obama is not our saviour. His plans to modernize our military, make more jobs, etc. will still keep us in a lifestyle where we are destroying ourselves. Slowing down the process is not a solution. The solution is recognizing we are going the wrong way; real change is needed now.
We have structured our education and foreign policy toward an employment lifestyle. That causes all the problems we are fighting including the pollution and global warming being addressed in Poland this week, (Dec.5-12-2008?)
The solution is turning to creating a retirement lifestyle where our time is our own to repair our homes, communities and families and to create a garden paradise where the trees, plants and animals give food. That stops the problems of disease, energy crisis, wars, financial crisis, food crisis, poverty, immigration, child and elder care as well as pollution and global warming at the same time. It is the only fair sustainable development solution.

Hey Kent, does this mean you don't know what they were talking about? or that your audience won't understand it? I personally am interested in these arcane discussions about how to achieve emissions cuts. lets talk about a cap-and-trade agreement, about how there is no real way to measure the emissions that are supposedly being sold on an open market. Shouldn't there be some information about some of the drawbacks to some of the proposed plans for reducing emissions? I mean, how we are able to finance some of these projects, its a very big question, especially in a global recession. I don't think we should be reducing the work that is going on in Poland as arcane, or inconsequential. even if no actual global agreement is made, these talks are precursors to the Copenhagen talks, and this is where the rules are set for the eventual game that'll be played out it 09. So if you could provide a little more info about how and what they are actually agreeing on, I think it'd be a little more relevant than another Obama story, especially when he isn't even participating in the talks!
And for Larry of Ca. the Kyoto Protocol has had little to no positive effects because there have been few countries, if any, that have actually followed through with their promises. Those that have, did so because it was in their leaders best interest, politically, to appear environmentally savvy to their nation. America didn't agree to any of the requirements! But just because a law isn't enforced doesn't mean the law is wrong. Also, if you look at the ebb and flow of the global climate, we were due for a mini ice age in about the 1970's, only, the release of so much carbon into the atmosphere, mainly by burning Bio-fuels, altered that natural cooling. Global warming and climate change are basically synonymous. One infers the other when we are discussing humans EFFECT on our environment. and actually, a lot of the current economic problems can't be blamed on on these "stupid ideas and policies"
. They can be blamed on a culture of consumption, a general social acceptance of the average person being in debt, and an economy that is no longer backed up by hard currency. Finally, as far as making mother nature behave the way we want, Humans have effected the global climate, there is irrefutable evidence of this. So we're already changing "mother nature", our goal now, is not to change the natural order, it is to get back to what the natural order originally was, something very different than what we see today, just take a look at iceland over the past 30 years, or visit glacier national park sometime. there's some critical-thinking for you, from a tree-hugger.

i dont know how, with todays modern scientific evidence, anyone cannot beleive in climate change. More CO2 than we (humanity)have ever seen. Horrid, horrid pollution everywhere, from the rivers to the middle of the ocean, from the savannas all the way to the top of everest. and most of all, OVERPOPULATION!!!!

In the 1970's it was the next ice age was coming, in 2000 is global warming, and when data didn't support that either you changed the name to climate change.

It's a fraud
In the face of no measurable warming since 1998, in the face of the computer models which all failed to predict the cooling now underway, in the face of expenditures of over 40 billion dollars which produced no evidence whatsoever that CO2 concentrations have any effect on the climate, these politicians still want to fight "global warming."
Wake up! There is no global warming. We are faced with global cooling again, as we did in the period of 1940 to 1975. This was the period of the war and the post-war boom which made CO2 concentrations increase rapidly, but the world cooled.
During the period of 1975 to 1998, the word did indeed warm. And during this period we also saw the sun's energy emissions increase. Those scientists who study the sun's energy emissions have correctly predicted the earth's and the other planet's climate changes. The global warming, CO2 emissions "warming theorists" have never predicted anything correctly.
This Poznan conference is an assembly of politicians who seem able to continue to hoax the whole world with a theory which is so transparently false that it beggars the imagination that anyone could believe it.
But, it seems that this group wants to extend and increase the scheme called the Kyoto Protocols, which has failed utterly to cause CO2 reductions anywhere in the world. It seems if something fails utterly and completely -- they plan to make the goals even more unattainable. Science is the process of theorizing and predicting future events, and when observations contradict the theory, it is the theory which needs to be discarded.
These so-called scientists are so determined to levy enormous taxes and hardships on the world, including devastation and deaths on the 3rd world populations, that they have lost all moral authority to do anything about global warming.
In fact, it does not exist, and these people are no better than common thieves. And many responsible scientists say so, and have resigned from the U.N. agency in protest over the fraudulent methods and dishonest so-called studies which purport to "prove" global warming. But, like the famous "hockey stick" proof of man's role in causing climate change because of CO2 emissions -- we know it was a fraud, and so are those who advocate CO2 emission reductions. It will do nothing for the climate.
But, it will put billions of dollars into the pockets of those who want to run "cap and trade" systems, and will satisfy the radical environmentalists who want to control the world's economies. They have no facts, all they have is blind ambition to defraud the world's govennments and the taxpayers.
Let's not let them.
