The finger pointing will not get Russian troops out of Georgia and to read some of the comments it sounds like there are some who believe that all that is needed is talk and more talk....Putin is counting on those who dread to act in a decisive manner to continue his desired total destruction of everything of value in Georgia. He wants to be remembered as the first Czar of the New Russian Empire. To those in Europe and in the US for that matter who think otherwise---they had better start learning Russian......

The sensible "hit" back to Russia is to kick them out of the G8 until better behavior is again demonstrated. This may sound like wrist slapping, but it's civilized and nobody on any side gets killed over it. No one is gonna benefit by a Western war with Russia. This needs diplomacy. As for Georgia, we ought to take a good hard look at the Ossetia grabbing by both sides.

Georgia;s Bid to Join NATO

Readers should remember Putin grew up in a xenophobic society. The former Soviet Union dominated their neighbors to protect not only their economic and political goals, but to coerce their own citizens into submission. As a former member of both the military and communist party, Putin has little experience (and no mentoring) with true democracy. History says he will continue these types of attacks unless stopped by NATO.

do not push russia to become soviet union

Russia in 90s was a democratic and pro-western country. But Nato continued to expand towards EAST. Thus more and more NATO is willing to surround Russia by its member-countries. Of course this is a real threat for Russia. That is why the more eastern nato expands, the "soviet" will be Russia.

If Usa has military base in Ukrain, Russia will put its forces and missiles on Cuba.

my thoughts exactly

As long as NATO countries such as Germany bar ex-soviet block states from entering into NATO, for fear of military direct involvement with the Russians, NATO will keep losing influence among non member nations, not to mention prestige. And ok the other hand Russians will keep testing the EU NATO & UN, because they know that They wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to oppose them either millitarly or economically. Today Georgia tommorow Ukraine and Azerbaijan

Reaction is everything.

If a bully hits you and you do nothing, he keeps hitting you.

If a bully hits you and you hit him back, he thinks twice about hitting you again.
