Amid the bluster, Iran and the U.S. might just give diplomacy a chance.
I think the title of this article is totally false. Iran has always been ironclad that the issue of its nuclear energy is NOT
negotiable -war or no war. And the U.S. and Israeli threats of
military action have been bluffs that Iran has just laughed at.
And the opinion of Gary Sick is irrelevant because he usually represents the typical view broadcasted by the Voice of America, and those poor souls that like to hear that their country is the nicest nation around the globe - at the time that pools around the globe have shown 97% disdain of the U.S. foreign policy.
But there is another aspect that Gary Sick and the Voice of America won't tell their audiences. That in addition to the U.S. and Israel inability to destroy Iran's core nuclear facilities [core is a key word here], America's Gulf allies are terrified of the prospects of an Iranian rain of missiles against them for allowing the U.S. access to their facilities to attack Iran. And the message from the U.S. allies in Gulf to the U.S. is: "Don't even think about; it's madness."
So, what is the bottom line? Iran won't negotiate its nuclear
energy program, and the U.S. and Israel can only find a face-saving way to back down - but present it to the media as a negotiated agreements with safeguards that satisfy both the U.S. and Israel. Every other argument presented on the subject is just for the U.S. public consumption. Nikos Retsos, retired academic
