Ian Fleming

Believe all the 'weird' stuff you hear about Fleming.

I met Ian in '62, and, amongst friends (German mercenaries from Katanga, several front-line combat mil-intel guys from WW11, including David Niven, himself thought to still be spying on the Americans for the SIS, to name a few) and he said all his novels were based on real people and events, but all mixed up, of course. You have to read between the lines and know things most of the public don't know to suss out what really went on. He didn't dare write it all in clear.

"I don't have to make anything up, my problem is toning-down things to the degree I can publish and not find myself the object of an SAS hit! But even the things I've written about is tame stuff compared to some things I've heard about. I've got stuff that will curl your toes! I've heard some of the worst stuff directly from the Royals - they hear things apparently so hot it's never recorded anywhere - you simply wouldn't believe the evil some people will do! And the chess-games some seemingly pious people have been up to. I can't look at a head of state or a politician, or anybody for that matter, without cringing, wondering what sh#t they ARE up to, not to mention have BEEN up to. All smiles and goodness... but pure evil underneath. Doesn't matter how rich and powerful they are - and they usually are - the b#gg#rs want it all! All, ALL, the wars mankind has ever fought has been these people vying for more power. Over YOUR dead body! They could care less how many 'peasants' get killed, as long as it isn't them. I could write SUCH books... but I daren't. I write the ones I can, but these others... But I will leave a record for posterity. Sometime, somewhere, somehow, the people MUST know how they are being conned by these people! It must end. I firmly believe mankinds future depends on it."
