GOP's Foxx: Republicans Passed Civil Rights Act
A comment by oft-controversial North Carolina Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx had Democrats choking down anger again today. On the House floor, Foxx suggested that it was the Republicans, not Democrats or President Lyndon B. Johnson, who pushed through the civil rights acts of the 1960s. Think Progress has the video here.
Says Ryan Rudominer, spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, "It speaks volumes that House Republicans would send out one of its top lieutenants, Virginia Foxx, to make such an absurd statement about the civil rights era, given her own history of making such racially offensive remarks."
In a statement, he reminded reporters that Foxx had used the term "tar baby" on the House floor and had suggested that the murder of gay student Matthew Shepard was not a hate crime.

Just To Let You Know, Rep Foxx....
the 16th Century called. It's lonely and needs you back ASAP!
LBJ
I find it ludicrous that any thinking person could actually give credence to the idea that the republicans, today composed almost entirely of right wing nut jobs, had anything to do with civil rights. Fortunately, history says otherwise, and as a Canadian I am amazed at how you Americans tend to ignore your history.
Why don't you take a look at Bill Moyers latest offering- an hour of recorded conversations between LBJ and various advisors regarding the escalation of the Vietnam War. In the end 2 1/2 million Americans served in Vietnam, and now you are doing it all over again.
Also- take a really good at Genereation Kill, which is absolutely riveting.
In fairness to LBJ, he did agonize over the war, and repeatedly stated that this was "a hell of a mess", as did Humphrey, Church, etal.It seems obvious that Sen. Barry Goldwater, hawkish mofo that he was, and the joint cheifs pushed and pushed for escalation, and LBJ, much to his discredit, bought into their bull.
It appears to many of us up here in Canada that your politicians are interested in one thing, and that's getting re-elected. Your presidential campaigns are so bloated and out of porportion that it boggles the mind that you all have not staged a revolution. You Americans are so busy being flag waving super-patriots that seem to have lost sight of what the hell is actually going on- you know, the big picture.
Shameful doesn't really even begin to describe it.
