Supporters of Healthcare Reform Start Bus Tour

Posted August 25, 2009

Organizing for America, the national network of Obama supporters, is trying to rev up support for healthcare reform with a bus tour that kicks off tomorrow in Phoenix. The "Health Insurance Reform Now" bus will make 11 stops between tomorrow and when members of Congress return to Washington, hitting up Albuquerque, N.M., Denver, Raleigh, N.C., and Pittsburgh.

The president's supporters seem to have been drowned out when it comes to healthcare reform, with activists on the right flocking to healthcare town halls around the country and getting a lot of attention for doing so. Conservatives already have a bus, too, the "Hands Off My Healthcare" bus, created by the conservative group Americans for Prosperity. It has toured the country for several weeks, this week stopping in Arkansas.

Organizing for America is trying to get more attention and is calling for a "massive show of support" from voters interested in seeing healthcare reform get passed. The tour starts tomorrow and is conveniently scheduled around the same time and down the street from Sen. John McCain's healthcare town hall meeting.

Here's the note that was E-mailed to Organizing for America supporters in Arizona:

I have some exciting news: Our "Health Insurance Reform Now" bus tour—part of a big push before Congress heads back to Washington—will be in Phoenix, Arizona this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

We'll be gathering together to show our support, hearing from speakers—including Organizing for America Director Mitch Stewart—about what reform would mean and how to fight back against the lies, and presenting thousands of Arizonans' declarations of support for reform.

Tort Reform is the ANSWER, not our FREEDOM

One thing that no one is commenting on is the importance to reform the lawsuits that cause doctors to request every test necessary to protect themselves. Tort Reform should be at the top of the list instead of stripping away our freedom. By passing one of the many plans on the table, there will be nothing but more taxes and losing your choices. Please leave our healthcare alone!
