New Video Compares GOP Healthcare Reform Critics to Hollywood Horror Movies
With Republicans seizing on polls showing that the public is concerned about the reach and cost of President Obama's healthcare reforms, the pro-Obama group Americans United for Change has just produced a video comparing the naysayers to Hollywood's scariest horror show stars. Titled the Republican Health Care Horror Show, the video picks up on Obama's earlier warnings that the GOP will roll out the attacks.
Spoofing Dawn of the Dead and featuring some of the silver screen's fave horror stars, the group focuses on the words the GOP is using to criticize the health plan, such as takeover, rationing, and bureaucratic.
"No, it's not Halloween, but you wouldn't know that by listening those on the right. With all the terms they've been throwing around to scare people about healthcare reform, the GOP is practically writing their own horror film. What they are really afraid of is that competition will eat into the profits of their buddies in the insurance industry," says Tom McMahon, acting director of the Americans United for Change. "Meanwhile, the healthcare system is in shreds. Costs have skyrocketed out of control and Americans are suffering.
"Today, we're unveiling this web ad to shine the light on these false attacks and tell the Republicans that Americans are smarter than that. As shown by recent numbers, 76 percent of Americans want a healthcare system that offers a real choice between keeping the health insurance they have and a public health insurance plan that would compete with private insurers to drive down costs. Fear mongering is not going to help. So far, that's all the Republicans have offered.
"The American people know what's really scary-letting the insurance industry control our health care," McMahon says.
