Former Bush Health Czar Warns of Obama 'Trojan Horse'

Posted April 23, 2009

First the Bushies whacked at President Obama's economic plans. Then they assailed his release of torture memos. Now they're going after his plan to provide federal healthcare coverage. Former Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt has penned a note on the new AmericaSpeakOn.org site warning that Obama's plan could dry up corporate-funded healthcare. He reasons: Why should companies pay for healthcare if the federal government is going to cover the uninsured? Here's AmericaSpeakOn's release and link to the Leavitt memo:

Special Contributor Mike Leavitt Kicks-Off with First Commentary
"
Beware of the Trojan Horse"

Washington , D.C. - The grassroots forum AmericaSpeakOn.org today kicked off a three-week discussion about health care reform with a commentary from former Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt.  In his first commentary since departing HHS, Leavitt calls the President's "public option" for health care coverage a Trojan horse that will actually undermine choice and competition in health insurance coverage.

"Every American should have access to health insurance that he or she can afford.  Government must take strong action to make that possible.  However, President Obama's "public option" is designed to become most Americans' only option.  Our only hope is to keep this Trojan horse safely outside our gates," Leavitt writes.

The entire piece is available at AmericaSpeakOn.org

During the three-week period, leaders on all sides of the health care reform conversation will share their thoughts via AmericaSpeakOn.org and to encourage the public to join the discussion and "Speak On."

This week, AmericaSpeakOn.org also unveiled new tools to help Americans better organize, debate and dialogue about issues that affect them in their communities. Concerts, rallies, neighborhood gatherings, town hall meetings all will be featured as part of this effort.  AmericaSpeakOn.org is urging Americans to get involved in their communities, become leaders, and be voices for freedom.

AmericaSpeakOn.org is a national grassroots movement dedicated to promoting public policies that protect the right of Americans to engage in free speech and vigorous public debate.  The 501(c)(4) organization is calling on the American people to join the conversation, share links, upload videos, become local leaders, get involved, speak up, speak out and, most importantly, Speak On.

Health Care debate

The health care reform, as I see it, is the big beginning to a gradually quicker pace for Americans to give up their individual rights. For many of us our freedoms have been taken for granted rather than to question the price and sacrifice brave soldiers have rendered in order for our nation and people to remain free. Today we have freedom of choice. If health care becomes nationalized, government will have full control of all decisions made regarding quality, how much care or how little care, and even whether to extend any coverage at all. Please, please people think about what you will be giving away---Freedom. If you are not willing to relinquish your freedom to our government, then please contact your congreemen and express your wishes.

Nice to see someone calling for "actual debate"

I wish WASHINGTON WOULD BOTHER TO LISTEN.

As far as "Nationalized Healthcare", I believe Washington has NO BUSINESS trying to run yet ANOTHER BUSINESS when they already can't handle what they're doing now.

Latest figure I've heard was $760/month for a family plan.

After OUR government gets through, probably $1400?

Doesn't sound like a very competative plan to me but hey, IT'S NOT REAL MONEY. It's ink and paper, right?

Bill Clinton Bobblehead, Washington Whispers

Bill Clinton recently said that he wished he could have stayed president until they carted him away in a coffin or he lost reelection. Looking back, would you have voted Clinton into a third term against George W. Bush in 2000?
