Obamameter: Obama May Not Have Gotten Bipartisanship, but He Got the Stimulus
Pollster John Zogby joins the Washington Whispers team to regularly update our new Obamameter. Each week, Zogby will size up Barack Obama on a specific issue, his popularity, or job performance and, based on his polling results and expert analysis, come up with a rating of between 1 and 100. In this week's Obamameter, Zogby analyzes the bounce from the Senate's passage of the stimulus, tempered by the surprise withdrawal of Sen. Judd Gregg as nominee to be secretary of commerce. Zogby gives Obama 82 out of 100.
"This is a bounce-back week for President Obama. Yogi Berra once remarked that when he popped a home run over the 296-foot 'short porch' in right field at the old Yankee Stadium, he got to run all the bases just like when Mickey Mantle would hit a 565-foot home run. In assessing Obama this week, he may not have gotten bipartisan support, but he got his bill—more or less—and still gets to run all the bases. The president is still at his best on the road. But next up is the pesky bank bailout and what is looking like a broken cabinet. Good thing the public still loves him. Rating: 82."
Last Week's Rating: 78.

"he may not have gotten bipartisan support"
That's right, the Republicans refused to vote a desparately needed bill -- but are now touting it in their home states. Despite the attempt by Republicans, the media, and pundits like Zogby to hang this "failure of bipartisanship" on Obama's neck, 82% of Americans can see through it. (Of course that leaves folks like dennis tren of NH and Mike of WA in the other 8%).
Did I miss something?
I seem to remember us having a "stimulus" last year. What changed? Let me guess: this year, it's a DEMOCRAT, and he's BLACK to boot!
Meantime,
" fyi, the GOP continues to stand still while time/the world move forward."
(Yes because Barry/we are the ones we've been waiting for. And in other news: Gaza stopped firing rockets at Israel, Islamic fascists surrendered in Afghanistan, and Congress voted AGAINST a pay raise.............)
"GOP strategy continues to backfire and now they look nothing but obstructionist "
(I guess the seven blue dogs who voted against this are guilty of the same, right?)
"Thankfully Obama's got the strength and strategy to move inexorably forward no matter what the pundits panic about."
(OK Mr. Matthews)
Who's being partisan again?
