Tax Cuts Receive New Emphasis—and Some Criticism—in Stimulus Debate

middle class cuts
Those of us that are gaining the least are those of us making good economic decisions to start with. Those with bills paid and houses that we can afford to pay for. We didn't overspend to start with...shouldn't we get a bonus in this whole schema?? I mean doing the right thing is getting you nothing so maybe I should go out and waste my mortgage money so that I can get bailed back out laster.
Where do I fit in?
I want to know where the average person fits in at. I want a total break down of where the money going and how it's being spent and how does it effect the less than average person?
Obama Tax cuts are an insult to our intelligence
$500 tax cut per person and $1000 per couple is an insult to our intelligence as americans if he actually thinks that will make any kind of difference to us. $20 per paycheck is nothing in today's economy. The only thing that is going to make a significant difference to the average middle class family is a major change in the income brakets and/or eliminating the marrage penalty.

It might mean none thing to you but to me it will HELP
middle class tax cuts
The Democracts and republicans should have in their stimulus bill a two year payroll tax holiday which will help put more money into the economy by taxpayers that are the backbone of this economy and to spend on things they really need for their family. Also at the same time help retail business. It also wouldn't hurt for a $5000.00 tax credit on the people's income tax to help sure up the working class with the extra capital to help the taxpayers to get back on their feet. The Democracts are to busy giving money to their pet projects or special intrest groups, I say people matter more.
economy
we keep hearing about consumer confidence. come on wake up....who's going to go out and buy anything if they don't know if they are going to have a job tomorrow? why not re-negotiate the "free" trade deals that has done nothing but allowed companies to close and move to another country, not make it better for the american people like they have led us to believe. the only ones that have benefited are the ceo's and executive boards. how do you expect people to buy anything not necessary to live on when we can't afford it? lets talk about inflation, everything has went up in this country except for wages. let alone the ones that have lost their jobs due to companies leaving. the middle class has gotten smaller and smaller. and it's not just the automakers, look at all the steel mills that have closed. how many tens of thousands of jobs have been lost there? i keep hearing about things being soo much cheaper to make in another country and sold here. then why do we still have the high prices? carhart clothing for example...price hasn't changed since they closed and moved. what about all the fishing and hunting equipment? no change there either, list goes on and on. but the union worker gets tha blame. i rememeber that when all these things were still made here and bought here we didn't have troubles with the economy. free trade was supposed to open markets for us to ship our products to be sold in another country, not for them to be made in another country and sold to us.....WAKE UP!!!!
Bailout
We feel that why give all that money to all the industries? Then we the taxpayers get handed the bill? We keep getting told we the consumers, need to go out and spend the money we got earlier. We are told the consumers need to spend the money. But they (govt) keeps giving the money to mortgage companies, car makers, banks. Instead of giving the money to the taxpayers, not the $600, divide the money being given to the ones alloted now, give it to the consumers. In return consumers would go out and pay their mortgages, credit cards, and go and buy things needed and of course some things wanted. And of course there will be people that go out and blow it. But is that not what we are being told. People would go out and spend the money on homes, go to the stores and buy, buy and buy more. That would be a stimulus for the consumers that have been watched and told to go out and spend. Then the banks, mortgage companies, credit card companies, car makers would not need to be bailed out. The money would be going around and around again.
People would be needed to supply the things people are wanting to buy.
bailout
give each filer of a form 1040, 1040a, 1040ez a rebate check of $5,000.00. 100 million taxpapers times five thousand dollars equals 500 billion dollars. if a third of this is put into savings, that will strengthen banks and credit unions. if a third is used to buy new stuff, that will boost the economy. if a third is used to pay down credit card debt, that will strengthen the credit markets. use the rest to increase manufacturing in this country. we send ships to be broken up into scrap to foreign countries and we send iron ore to other countries. these raw materials are turned into finished products that are sent back to us. keep these raw materials here in the US and create new manufacturing jobs here.
side note: increase the ceiling on earnings subject to social security to one million dollars. if a worker making ten thousand dollars must pay $750.00; the guy or woman making a million should be able to afford $75,000.00.
Pay off homes in foreclosure?
Evan of MO suggests using the bailout money to payoff the homes in foreclosure. How stupid is that! So, because I have been responsible and did my homework before I bought my home, I have to keep paying on my home. Meanwhile, let's reward the idiots who didn't by paying off their home! Rewarding bad behavior is the worse thing we can do.
,,,,
My theory on the whole auto bailout situation was this. Instead of giving these companies money to do whatever they wanted with, why not buy every family in america a car....Instead of Helping these mortgage companies take million dollar vacations, why not pay off all homes in foreclosure? These are my points and while they are shared by many people who "work for a living" they will never be shared by the US government, and this sad. all of this bail our money could have went to good use, but instead it went into the hands of the CEO's of failing business. I really hope OBAMA decides to INVEST IN AMERICA THIS TIME!!!!
both are great responses and i totally agree. the government thinks by helping these auto and bank companies itll help. who does it help.. besides the owners. what about all the people they STILL layed off even getting all that money. why do they help them out when they're goin under? they never help out the middle class from goin under. just like you said i pay my bills and struggle with that but i do whatever i can to do what i have to do. im union and the economy is so bad ive beenout of work for 3 months might not be that long for most, but its hard to live with no money. they think 500-1000 is gonna speed up economy? they need to rethink hat goin on... help the middle class legal americans, 1000 dollars thats hardly enough to pay bills. if they wanna jump start the economy, do beat around the BUSH and "REALLY" do it. the government pays these politics/congress godly amounts of money to determine these bills/stimulus and why do you think they chose 500-1000? they dont need it. cut there pay theyhavent figured out whats right for the working man.
