Why a Tiny Alabama Town Wants a $375 Million Chunk of the Stimulus

stimulus aid to Edwardsville, Al
Good for Edwardsville-- some forward looking people meetng the challenges of the century, such as becoming more energy self-sufficient and seeing the expenditure of money today as an important investment in our, and our childrens, future. Give 'em all they need -- they're on the road that leads to tomorrow.
Rural? You don't know Rural
I live in Pickaway, zipcode lost years ago so must use neighboring code next community, Sinks Grove! There isn't enough population to keep one mail carrier busy so he must service 4 satellite Post Offices. THIS IS RURAL. If they want to fund anything, it should be the Second Creek Water Shed Project so the County with have drinking water that isn't as hard as Carbon steel. We scoop quarts of calcium out of the washer in order to get it started. And you feel like you.ve been coated with Elmer's glue after a shower. Rural?
Everybody wants something. I want my life savings back, and my retirement account. We didn't have much, as an LPN and an Enlisted E6, disabled in service, we saved every penny possible. We don't use credit (cards or otherwise), no mortgage, no installment buying. We buy as we go/need. Our IRA is 1/2, 401k non-exsistent. We have funds for, possibly, 3 years. Give us back the money you 'debtors" stole. Now THIS was hard earned money. Disabled, 68, unemployable: we need what we saved, and lost. NOT charity, just repayment!
We live here because the cost of living WAS tolerable, but everything is soaring in price as I type. There's no chance of flooding here, or mudslides, or hurricane. Snow is limited, as well as water/rain. But we like the mountains, And the people, as long as they leave us alone.
Quit your bit*****, stop the greed, and work for as little as you can get by on. Money will ruin life, along with GREED. And pay as you go, with YOUR money, NOT credit (which is my money).
HAIR LOSS CREAM
Good evening. When we are unhurried and wise, we perceive that only great and worthy things have any permanent and absolute existence, that petty fears and petty pleasures are but the shadow of the reality.
I am from Iraq and now teach English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Scannable resume design all large companies and a majority of medium sized companies scan resumes."
Thanks for the help :-D, Peggy.
I know these people
These people are working stiffs - as you call them - just like the rest of the world. Why is it ridiculous for a small town to dream so big. Since the government is handing out money left and right why not give it to someone that will actually use it to better this planet - not just line there pockets - as you would say. U don't have to be from a small town to be ignorant obviously. Don't pretend to know people when you don't know anything of them. The land in Edwardsville is residential and mainly undeveloped farm land - in which these people work for a living. So when you talk about struggling for your next paycheck - these people are keeping their families alive with the food they grow and produce in this community. My mother along with both of my grandmothers worked there entire lives in the sewing plant - that was for a woman the only source of income in the town as well as for the men they work in the wiring plant in the town - outside of that farming is all there is to do. These are normal people. Unlike most of the rest of the world the "politicians" in this town actually are the "real" people in the town and they help the community because they are the community along with their families. Edwardsville is the ideal place to live with your family - it's a town filled with love and community. It's towns filled with people like this that raise young men and women with morals and values to go before and fight in this war. If being a model for rural america could happen - it would happen here first.
Is it really going to help?
Is that money even going to get to the regular person? who works every day and lives in fear that they will be laid off the next time they turn around. that they will become homeless in a matter of days due to loss of a job..
This is a great idea!
I think this town is way ahead of the curve on the bailout. Kudos to the alert town elders for diving headfirst in to that fragrant, newly-printed ocean of money and stuffing fistfuls into their pockets. I, on the other hand, am just a lowly working stiff who, lacking foresight, wasted my life working, saving, paying my bills, and living within my means. I have seen the light now, though. We're all in this together. Now somebody give me my money!
???This is weird????
I feel as if that amount of money being spent on roads and museums is rediculus. I man honestly, does it really take 3 million to upgrade some street lights. I agree, tax payers' money should be spent and not just held, but use it to go toward something that will not only help a town of 194 people, but the entire population of America. There are issues mush greater than the population in that rural area, like war for example. I feel America will continue to be in deavt if we keep incouraging foolishness like this. 375 million dollars for a town of 194 people! Are we serious? I would love to see the results of the town being upgraded, but could we do it withing budget. This is partially the reason our country is in such a bind now. We waist money on things we don't really need and leave the huge issues to be delt with by some one else. The problem with that is, there is no one stepping up to try to solve these problems. I hope our new president do us proud, as he step up, and try to fix what was broken with this country.
interesting
How interesting it is to see how we all refer to eachother... All communities will feel this dificult time, and while we all have several ideas of how this money should be spent, no one is asking our opinion. This money should be spent to save all of us as a whole not seperately but equally. What would it take for us to spend this money on the issues were really facing? I feel that all the money spent should be capable of generating a return that pays off all that was passed out. So by all means give the money to a small town to help them build their dreams, and with the money they start to save they can help pay back the Federal government. This money is our hardwork being passed out, i want the money i spend to go towards ending this insane debt that this country has created. This can only be fixed by everyone bailing eachother out. I look forward to seeing what our nations leaders will do with our hard earned money.
P.S.
I meant the foothills in the north east. Alabama doesn't have actual mountains. I wouldn't want the world to think that all Alabamians are stupid or over exagerate everything about our State.
Edwardsville AL. bailout
Some people have an awfully lot of nerve but not much sense. The stimulous package should only keep peoples heads above water that would otherwise drown in this recession. All other monies should be used to actually "stimulate" the recovery of our entire country. There should be repairs made to roads and bridges. Our schools are were all innovative priorities should be made. If anyone should get solar panels and lighting, start with the school houses. Let's turn our "Little red schoolhouses" into "Little green schoolhouses". Don't waste time and money on people that have already wasted enough for two lifetimes, start fresh. Since our children will be paying the bill on all of these stimulous give aways, they should reap the benefits, but don't let them starve in the meanwhile. Alabama needs stimulated from the mountains in the northeast to Daulphin Island, not one tiny town with a big ego!
