To "Religious Freedom"
I do not feel that you are a "backwards bigot"or any other type of bigot. I just feel that you are choosing which tenants of the bible you would like to represent. The entire description of the "self sacrificing will of love" you have mentioned is exactly how my partner and I have felt about eachother for the past 11 years, and how degrading is it that you can say your love for your husband is any more valid than mine for my spouse? I did not choose to be gay, but you have chosen to be Catholic. Why should your "choice" have a deeper impact than what you have stated was a "choice" I made?I am sure you would say that it was not a choice for you to be Catholic; you were born that way. If you truly believe that these matters are governed by a higher power, than you should let that higher power be the judge and not us mere and humble humans.

Love Is Love
This is crazy, what is the differance whether or not marraige is between a woman and a man or two people of the same sex! Every person needs to have the same rights as any other person. No matter who they are in love with.
In a free Country...
I think it is so revealing when Republicans and Bible thumps boast about America being such a free country while, behind the curtain they want to limit rights of Americans. Don't get me wrong, I agree with Republicans on a lot of things but, this is not one of them. I love my freedom... if need be, I will die for my freedom.
In Leviticus, the Bible clearly states the if a man sleeps with another man the way he sleeps with a women, that it is an Obamanation... uh, abomination. I am a Christian and I do not condone that particular lifestyle. But, if I we a lawyer, I would be on the front lines with the gays.
This country is not a Christian nation! People tell me that because the word God appears in the Pledge of alliance and that Congress starts each session with prayer that these are the tell tell signs. President Eisenhower inserted the word od in the Pledge of alligence. President Eisenhower is not America. President Eisenhower is not the Constitution. Should gays and lesbians be married in a Christian church? That's up to the church. But, there should be no restrictions on two human beings legally, in the eyes of the law being married.
While were on the topic, why is polygamy illegal? No one can answer that question for me. Again, are Americans not free? If a man, or a woman, can afford to have 15 wives, why is that against the law?
This false belief that this country is a theocracy is what put Obama in office. The Christian right is strong and unwilling to separate the law and their, our, religion. It reminds me of something... the Taliban.
I found it amusing when talking to Christian republicans how avidly they supported president Bush and the wars in Iraq and especially the war in Afghanistan against the Taliban. "They are denying the rights of women to be educated." is what I heard most often. But, aren't they doing the exact same thing?
Gay Marriage
Legalized gay marriage will threaten liberty
http://thinkpoint.wordpress.com/2009/05/27/gay-marriage-debate-in-perspective/
It's only a matter of time
With marriage comes literally thousands of rights and responsibilites. Like all citizens, gays have the right to equal protection and equal opportunities. Denying them the right to marriage denies them these rights granted to them in the Constitution. They also have the right to privacy!
Conservatives and others acted the same way when the miscegenation laws (ban on interracial marriage) were being overthrown.
We live in a secular society. That means NO religion can dictate our laws.
The government must look out for the well-being of its citizens. It's only a matter of time before gays get their rights and these out-of-date laws are overthrown.
Consanguinity
It seems to me that such benefits as hospital visitation and health insurance shouldn't depend on a sexual test.
Why shouldn't sisters or brothers or aunts and nieces or mothers and daughters be able to claim full household status if they are committed to one another?
I don't object to domestic partnerships, but do object to expecting or requiring partners to "consummate" a sexual relationship.
