This is not just a Replublican/Conservatives problem. How do you explain ACLU? American Civil Liberties?! The most liberal, anti-American, false, pretentious organization in America today. This also happens to be the name liberals gave which happens to also be, as you state, "a lie on a stick." I agree with JMAC of AZ premise that these funds could have more difinitive titles and that those who contribute hard earned dollars should at least do some cursory research. Those who chose to contribute fine, those who don't, fine. I see the article as a non issue. Those who feel so strongly about this would/should be vitriolic about campaign financing reforms. But you don't hear about campaign finance issues until the next go-around.

Alaska Trust Fund

Re: Muser

Take 2 seconds and read the first line of the Alaska Trust Fund website...

"The Alaska Fund Trust is the official legal fund created to defend the integrity of the Alaska Governor's Office from an onslaught of political attacks launched against current Governor Sarah Palin, the First Family, and state-employed colleagues."

Pretty obvious, isn't it? Feel like you might accidentally send your money there?

These funds are very common. Remember Charlie Ya Lin Trie running the Clintons "Trust Fund" to legally defend the Clintons' from the Whitewater scam and Paula Jones back in 1997? Sure these funds are bizzare, but it has nothing to do with left/right.

That is the problem with people like you. It isn't a conservative or liberal issue, its an issue with people that just hate everything and feel the need to comment online without spending a few seconds to read some facts before opening their mouths.

Still confused? Take 2 more seconds and look up the meaning of "Trust Fund."

Still more on Palin?

I am sure that the spines of these in this blog would crumble under the weight of her successes. Go back to your bon-bons, ignorance, and Oprah for the lastest on the ral world. As for continuing to take cheap shots at the V.P. candidate, get off your fat duffs and run for office. As for for voting for a puppie, you can't, as finger prints are required on the political application, but a woman who can have puppies that should be a story for U.s. News!

If something is called the "Alaska Fund Trust"

and it's really for paying Sarah Palin's legal defense, then the fundraisers for the "trust" are implicit liars by their choice of a name---and so is Palin.

This is the problem with conservatives.

Patriot act. Death tax. Alaska Fund Trust.

Every name they give something is a lie on a stick.

Re: Palin

While Gov. Palin was the VP nominee of the Republican Party, one of the primary (there are very few constitutional responsibilities for the VP) jobs of the VP is to be ready to become the President at a moments notice. So it valid to criticize her for not being ready to be President. It is also a completely valid reason to not vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Sen. McCain articulated conservative values very well (not 100% but very well). The American people listened to him and (then) Sen. Obama and made a decision that they supported the Democratic ticket. Please stop with the "he didn't represent condervatives well, he wasn't a real conservative, etc." line. He was, he is, he represented and the American people chose otherwise

The tone of public discourse

Many of us who have studied history have concluded that a significant factor in causing the Civil War was the tone and tenor of public discourse. When men stopped reasoning and looking for compromises to solve the problems of the day the fate of the nation was sealed. Tempers and heated rhetoric replaced calm and deliberate debate.

The bile and vindictive tenor of much of what I read makes me wonder if we are not setting ourselves up for an a similar explosion some place in our near future. I had never dreamed that the polarization could reach such hateful and illogical extremes but I see it every time I read a blog. When emotions become the basis for decision making and for the tone of debate you can bet that sooner or later violence will replace debate. How sad that the greatest republic in history has sunk to this low estate.

Re:Palin

From the note and tone of your comment, it's easy to validate the saying that it's better to be thought a fool than to opens one's mouth and remove all doubt.

First, learn your facts. She was running on the ticket as Vice President, not as President. Consequently, McCain, not Sarah, would have been responsible for decisions had the ticket won.

The fact that you'd vote for a dog over her is preposterous. What is it that makes Sarah Palin so polarizing to women? Is it jealousy because she's an exceptional governor who is very, very popular within her state? Perhaps it's because she's a common ordinary person like you and I who happend to get a tap on the shoulder to be Senator McCain's running mate and we're mad that he didn't choose us? Maybe it's because we resent anyone that looks better or is smarter than us, who has done more with the God given talen in her little finger than most of use will ever accomplish in our lives. Or, possibly it's because she confronts the same issues every parent in American confronts and is able to pull it off despite the rigors of civil service and accompanying responsibilities.

I don't know why, but be careful tearing people down to try and feel better about yourself.

I can accept that the nation has a Democrate President. He wasn't my first choice, but I can hold my nose for the next 4 years and swollow the sour bitterness and do what I can to suppport and sustain (just as Democrates have done for his predecessor). Had she been in the position of President (even though she would have been Vice President and consequently not making the decisions you allude to) I'm sure her Executive experience would have served her well. I'm sure that she would have surrounded herself with very competent people that would have provided sound advise and reasoning to assist in decision making. She would have done very well.

What is appallingly sad, is that liberal extremists, continue the unheralded attacks against her. What drives the fear? I think it's due to fear that she will be the next Republican ticket in four years.

I think it's important to understand that John McCain didn't lose the election because of Sarah Palin. Rather, Sarah Palin, helped him do as well as he did. McCain's election was his to win or lose. He lost because he was unable to articulate conservative values in a way that resonated with America. If McCain lost because of Sarah Palin, then Obama should have lost because of Joe Biden?

Palin

That's what she gets for bashing Obama. She tried to dig a hole for him and fell into herself. The bible never lies. She needs to go away and learn something--anything. Every time she opens her mouth nothing but stupid comes out. I'm so sick of Palin. I can't get over the fact that she really thought she could be president of the US. And what make it even worse that people actually voted for her. That woman is dumb as dirt. I would vote for one of my puppies before I vote for her to be president. They are more intelligent than she is. I wish one day a woman do get the highest office in the US but not Palin. I would hate to think of how she would perform as president today with all the crises facing the US and the world. It would be sad.
