GOP Strategists to Cheney: Enough, Already
Some are concerned Cheney will be seen as the spokesman for the party

To Mike...
You may want to pay attention to the post...
If less governement means spending 4.5 trillions dollars more? Yeah, I want more governement.
Trouble is the the **** republican are creating less govermenent by outsourcing it at a much higher cost to croonies and highest bidders (read found raisers).
DOD waste is incredible and it is one the three biggest US federal gvt expenditure. Why? Oursourcing, contracting jobs that can be done by uniformed personel at a much lesser cost and could give these folks a real oportunity when they get out.
Social security is the second one but then again... Looking at all the IOU written against it under the loop hole 'and all other purpose' (look at the text that created the SS - and the resulting raiding of the funds). Please make sure you see that those who paid SS all their lives are the ones left w/o anything. The governement left younger folks pay for all the IOUs by financing the SS of those who should be able to collect their own contributions. The SS is in good shape!!!! (If all the IOU were redeemable - They are not).
The third biggest is the IRS!!!! They spend almost as much as the DOD to collect taxes!!!
The rest is all a fraction of EACH of the first three... Read the numbers and start wondering where all the money we pay goes (other than interest).
It does not matter what party is at the helm on that aspect, they both cherish their pork and will prostitute the entire nation to their own 'special interest' groups.
If more govenment means less expenses? Let's roll! Who gives a rat ass who offers what?
If the **** republicans want to be elected? I will always vote against them since they screwed everything in the US and in the world.
If **** republican comes with a good idea? I'll vote for it.
If **** republican wants to be elected? I WILL VOTE AGAINST.
Cheney drew first blood...
Cheney was the first public criticism of President Good-Intentions/No-Experience that resonated.
On a political roll since inauguration, Obama started the stupid ball rolling by declassifying and publicizing memos concerning Bush administration 'enhanced' interrogation techniques. Obama did that while he -- not Bush -- was planning to put an increasing number of troops in harm's way. And Obama also did that while CIA operatives remained as before -- at risk.
So experienced Cheney called him on the prudence of that. Obama, on second thought, probably surprised that any criticism of him could catch on, backed off, and suggested Congress also back off from making political hay off of what he actually started.
But Grandma Pelosi sunk her tooth into the bait. Now look at her squirm to get the hook out of her mouth. Indeed, if she thought her best course of action was to win control of Congress rather than speak out against waterboarding years ago, she should now book a flight to Kabul and become president of Afghanistan.
So end result, staunch republicans are now looking at Pelosi and saying she stinks, while staunch democrats are looking at Cheney and saying he stinks. And neither of that is important to the middle.
In the middle, people noticing the stumbles, bumbles, and campaign sidesteps by Obama in light of further economic deterioration, like GM and Chrysler auto dealerships biting the dust, may be saying "Overall, on this one, Cheney made a good point -- and the economy continues to crumble."
Of Obama, Cheney, Pelosi, and now Panetta, only Panetta looks like a clear-cut class-act professional. His response in the matter, to stick up for his people, is beyond any partisan reproach. So to the middle, Panetta also came down on Cheney's side, although unintentionally and indirectly.
That's what worries democrats and democrat-leaning reporters, as the Cheneys and the Pelosis work to cancel each other out, and the Obama-appointed Panettas inadvertantly work against the democrats, more people may see Obama as being fallible, ineffective, and fiscally very expensive.
And that's before the stuff really hits the fan in Obama's 'Afpak' -- for US and Nato forces. Pakistanis in Swat Valley already got splattered with Obama -- not Bush.
So CJV
You sound like a guy that would support Colin "Americans want more government" Powell, am I right?
If so, you shouldn't talk.
Answer to Chris Petty of GA
Current budget deficit is due to the previous administration failing on all sectors.
Cost of a war started on lies (Iraq) is over 700 billions dollars.
Cost of being cosy with the 'big boys' is even higher as it is world wide.
Cost of failures to act in a timely manners over all issues like Katrina were both human and financial.
Cost of creating 'new governement sponsored' agencies like homeland security is running through the roof with nothing to show but croonism, contractor over runs, inneficiency and of course, utter failure...
In the mean time, vets and casualties of wars were left to rot in facilities no one would consider for normal living. The justice department if fraught with political 'professional' apointees.
Moral failure is written all over your 'heroes' (mis)deeds.
Had your 'heroes' been anywhere competent on anything you would have reasons to scream. Right now, you just need to be reaaaaaaly quiet as all spending is due to what they did.
Like everyone in a party that turns out to be less than 'for the people' you like pointing fingers but never toward what your so-called 'small government' party did.
Clinton left an economy that had problems was no where near what it is now. The .com bubble burst was the sickness, it only touched the US. The following administration had only one answer to all the ills it created: 'Go shopping, you will feel better'. America did. The US and the world pays for the binge.
Numbers?
Here they are: current federal deficit
Clinton Your 'heroes'
4,188,092,107,183.60 5,727,776,738,304.64
5,727,776,738,304.64 10,626,877,048,913.00
-------------------- ---------------------
1,539,684,631,121.04 4,899,100,310,608.36
1.5 trillions 4.8 trillions
(yeah, I am being generous, rounding down almost 100 billions)
Yup it rose 3 times as much in 8 years under your 'heroes'
Please note that taking off 700 billions to cover the wars and you still get 4.1 trillions. Not bad hey? We should all be swooning in admiration!
So, sure, you can be proud of a party that drove the deficit down with nothing to show for.
Your 'heroes' legacy:
Wars? Still in them.
Terrorism? Thriving
Economy? Down the drain.
International reputation/good will? Flushed
Ethics? Decomposed
Obama's future:
Wars? We may still be in at least one
Terrorism? May suffer a backlash but not due to any administration action.
Economy? Who knows, the thing is so messed up.
International reputation? Rising but for how how long?
Ethics? Jury is still out, we'll see in 4 years.
Congratulation, you win, hands down.
Cheney???
The Cheney / Limbaugh duo has made the GOP look like a bunch of nut cases!!
Add today's "just say no" and "fail" rhetoric coming out of the Republican base and you have a political party that doesn't represent America's best interests.......
Independent & ex-Republican
GOP needs a different spokesman but...
At least Cheney IS saying something to defend OUR President.
I've become so sick of the CNN-MSNBC media fawning over our new government and ignoring every mistake they've made while continuing to BASH the former administration as they did during GWB's entire Presidency. Some reader comments just seem to spew the same rehtoric they've heard for the past 9 years.
For Obama to releae CIA documents for purely political gain when the USA has "boots on the ground" on 2 war fronts is just dispicable. The very same people that joined this witch-hunt of the "water-in-the-face" torture of suspected Terrorist also have no problems condemming HUMAN embryos to certain death funded by OUR tax dollars.
Hypocrisy?
All of you short-sighted, short-memoried Americans should realize that GWB inherited Clinton's in-action against Terrorist attacks on the US and responded after 911, Katrina and Ike. War and Natural distasters are the ONLY excuse for Government to go into debt and President Bush's expenses averaged $500 Billion/Year. We had 7 of 8 good economic years.
Things started going down after the Democrats took Congress.
The NEW Democratic Administration has racked up 2 TRILLION in the first year with an even BIGGER sum for 2010.
Makes Bush look like a financial genius in comparison.

"Stop listening to ABC, CBS and MSNBC.....try getting objective news and the truth from FOX Cable News. "
I hope you are being sarcastic. If you want any truth about anything, it is not in the US media you will find it but abroad....

Dulles dropped the ball in the Middle east, just as the **** previous administration did... One major difference, Dulles did not lie to start a war but his lack of action and understanding of the middle east led directly to the rise of the Soviet influence in both Syria and Egypt. His action also led to the US supporting the Shah of Iran and the Ba'ath Party...
DC IS the mascot of the democrats now. For good reasons. His braying attracts the attention and make folks ask hard questions that turn out to be utterly negative toward the republicans. One needs to keep twisting the ass tail so that it keeps on going...
We will never forget what the republican did to the US and to the world. Their mascot is well chosen for that and benefits the democrats too!!!
Poor libs........NOT
Cheney is a private citizen now. Why are the all-mighty White House, their press team (Axeldork, Peanuthead Carville, the ever-knowing forehead Begala, the so-called indepedendent ABC commentator Snuffaluffagus, the MSMediots), and their legions of drones SO concerned? You think he might be right?
When Clinton and Carter were going around trashing Bush, you couldn't ooh and aah over them fast enough, saying "This is a REAL president!" You can't take for one MINUTE what you gave for eight years?
Why does your precious all-knowing hero (he's so magical he now has all this experience in foreign crises we didn't know about) have to justify his handling of foreign affairs to a private citizen anyway?
Art of War: when your enemy appears comfortable, shoot some arrows over there and move them around.
Fake "Confessions"
Cheney is jabbering like mad to distract America's attention from the most obvious of facts: Cheney started torturing people in order to extract phony "confessions" about the non-existent links between al Qaeda and Iraq. The Cheney-Bush Gang already had big plans to obliterate and pillage Iraq for the oil. He's trying to change the subject to his own bogus talking points: "We kept America safe..." all except for that WTC thing, and the thousands of American and allied troops who were murdered in Iraq and Afghanistan. An awful lot of Americans died at the hands of terrorists while Cheney was NOT keeping America safe. "But it worked!" if by "worked" you mean that the Cheney-Bush Gang managed to carry out their war of conquest, thievery and ethnic cleansing despite world disapproval and the total lack of credible evidence.
Every day which passes while Cheney, Bush, and their fellow war criminals are still at large is a stain on the reputation of the United States. Not only does the US clearly NOT enforce international laws, it also doesn't enforce its own Constitution, and instead of throwing these degenerate swine into prison for life, people are scurrying around fawning over the murderers and offering them slots on talk shows, speaking engagements and big wads of cash.
So why does the world hate America? Because America spits in the world's face every day, worships and rewards the most corrupt criminals, then foists military dictators, death squads, and torture chambers on everyone else. Then we have a parade or a convention to pat ourselves on the back for being such a wonderful society, a shining example for all humankind to emulate. Makes me want to vomit.
Cheyney, The Cold war warrior
Dick Cheyney is in the mold of John Foster Dulles the famous cold warrior of 1950ies. He and his namesake who ran the Eisenhower CIA are the people who come to mind when Dick Cheney is to be compared. Fortunately that time has passed. The world has changed and the people of the United States have moved on as evidenced by the ascent of Barack Obama. But Dick Cheyney is still trapped in that time warp. His mind set is to see an enemy anywhere he can find one and blast away with the best weapons in the US arsenal. Fortunately those weapons happen to be verbal and not atomic. I used to pray every day for the Decider's health fearing that if any thing were to happen to him this American version of Saddam Hussain would be in charge and than God save us all.
I am not overly concerned about Cheyney harming the Republican Party with his diatribes and outbursts. What worries me is his coastant harping on this administration may unhinge some angry right wing kook doing some real harm ala Oklahoma City.
This is not a debate the country needs to have again. He should go back to shooting quail in Texas.
