Democrats Mock Republicans for Old-Timers on TV Shows

The Democrats are jumping on the theme that the Republicans are mired in the past. The Democratic National Committee ran a Web ad yesterday and issued a news release this morning mocking the GOP for putting three old-timers on the Sunday morning TV shows—former Vice President Dick Cheney on CBS, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Fox, and former GOP presidential nominee John McCain on ABC. DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse said the trio represented ideas that voters had "thoroughly rejected" in last year's election.

The most media attention went to Cheney's response to a question about whether he sided with radio host Rush Limbaugh or former Secretary of State Colin Powell in determining the future of the GOP. "If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd choose Rush Limbaugh," Cheney said. "My impression was that Colin was no longer a Republican." Powell endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president last year. Cheney also said, "I don't think the Republican Party ought to move far to the left" but should remain true to its conservative principles.
