Uhm, Mr. Meek is a liar
it is never fails to amaze me how the anti- gunners have no idea what they are talking about. Or maybe they know if they tell the truth they will be shouted down, so that’s why they spread lies. Meek says that the .50-caliber Beowulf round is a military round used in heavy machine guns…..WRONG the .50 BMG is the round used in the military machine guns. The two rounds are completely different.

The .50 Beowulf is NOT the same round used in heavy machine guns which can take out big game and in war zones. You'd be thinking of the .50 BMG. The .50 Beowulf is basically a pistol round with a limited range of at most 200 yards.
I would think that if you're trying to be intellectually honest about reporting on a topic about which you have a negative opinion, you'd at least check your facts. Otherwise you're simply a political hack with an agenda to scare people into fearing guns, and to ridicule the Alaska governor.

Liberal Writer...That Says It All
Lets see, first Meek puts her down over apparel, then for her unsuccessful run for office, then for a gun, then again for her apparel and then dramatizes the gun donated, yet gives no explanation why this article qualifies as a political article. Is it simply because Sarah Palin is a governor? So what. Since when is it illegal for a governor to receive a gift as long as she declares it? This is not a political article from the stand point of news anyway. It is more over, a Hollywood Gossip Column with the apparent intent of discrediting an elected governor and to create animosity over a gun, or more likely to re-ignite the passion for total gun control and dominance over a conservative population.
There is too much news out there that is worthy of print. Yet it appears that writers like Meek are unable to complete the task, so they stoop to trash talk articles. It's getting harder and harder to read US N & W R.
Mr. Meek, The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States your right too, don't help destroy it just because you choose not to exercise it.
Beowulf NOT BMG
The .50 Beowulf is NOT the same as the .50 BMG used by "heavy machineguns." The BMG has about 15000J of energy while the Beowulf has about 4000J of energy, so it's about 1/3 as powerful.

The next PR trick is that you'll see Sarah all decked out somewhere shooting this gadget as though that would make her "presidential". Teddy Roosevelt she ain't.

Its only a lie if they are a Republican and say it. If they are Democrat it's called an explanation to the best of their knowledge(even if that is very limited, in which case they make up parts of the story so it sounds better).

There is almost no point in arguing the reality of firearms agianst the dimwitted, but it is NOT an assault rifle any more than a Lamborghini with a 4 cylinder engine is a street racing machine!
If you don't like guns, fine, but be honest about the factual aspect at least.
And almost nothing is chambered in .50 Beo, its pretty much a "boutique" round. The .50 BMG used in US heavy machine guns is a different round, the .50 Beo is roughly half the weight and about 60-70% of the velocity of the military .50 bullet (off the top of my head here, but i know that is very close).
Do you check facts before writing? OK that was rhetorical, clearly you do not or you would not have flat out lied in the above article!Does it bother you at all that you deliberately misrepresent what is going on in the world?
